The central train station in southern India has been cordoned off after two explosions ripped through a train. A twenty-two year old woman was killed and nine injured in the attack in Chennai city. Two carriages exploded as the Bangalore-Guwahati train arrived at the station. There was chaos at the station as people carried the injured from the platform for treatment. This is one of the busiest railway stations in southern India. Thousands of commuters use it every day to travel to neighbouring cities and states. The blasts come as India nears the end of a massive election but it's not been confirmed that the two events are linked.

The abduction has also become a symbol of the military's impotence in protecting civilians against the insurgents. And protesters here are determined the plight of the abducted girls is not ignored.

Derailed train bursts into flames in Lynchburg, Virginia

A U.S. freight train carrying crude oil derailed and burst into flames close to the city centre of Lynchburg in Virginia state. Three tanker cars carrying oil fell down an embankment and more than a dozen tanker cars were involved in the collision. Hundreds of people have been evacuated from buildings in the city, but no injuries have been reported. Oil has been spilling into the James river, which flows into Chesapeake Bay.

Clashes have erupted in Istanbul between May Day demonstrators and riot police as crowds tried to defy a government ban by marching to the city’s iconic Taksim Square. Demonstrators massed at different spots throughout the city, determined to mark International Workers’ Day at Taksim Square, which has been blocked off due to a ban on protests there.
Meanwhile in Moscow, more than 100,000 people marched through the city’s Red Square, to celebrate Russia’s Labour Day. The Chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions Mikhail Shmakov, and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin attended the event.
In Greece, May Day was marked by docked ferries, idle trains and most services shut in the aftermath of strikes. Riot police assembled in Athens in preparation for two separate rallies planned by labour unions.

"US President Barack Obama, has said many times and on different occasions that the US has no intention to contain China and we agree that China and the US share comprehensive common interests in Asia-Pacific affairs. The two nations should strengthen co-operation and work together with other relevant nations in the region to enhance the peace, stability,development and prosperity of the region." Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang said.
