Crackdown on illegal migrant workers in Malaysia
马来西亚打击非法移民工人

cO=9Xv@4Qa

The Malaysian government cracks down on illegal migrant workers. More than 1,000 of them were rounded up in Kuala Lumpur and Sepang, and were required to show documentation. Among them were workers from Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh and Thailand, local media said. The interior minister said those found without valid documents will be deported within seven days. Malaysia will not shoulder the costs of the deportations. Malaysia is highly dependent on migrant workers who are employed in blue collar jobs ranging from domestic work to construction.

Paying tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. At his memorial in Washington -- a yellow wreath to honor the slain civil rights leader. The gathering, not far from the site where he delivered his compelling 'I have a dream' speech, was just one of many events marking his life. There were parades in San Antonio, Phoenix and Denver in honor of King's work to end segregation.Vice President Joe Biden reflected on King's legacy at a breakfast in Washington.

Sochi 2014 Olympic torch arrives in Volgograd
索契冬奥会火炬抵达伏尔加格勒

OC~f)U,z]dDpGl

The Sochi 2014 Olympic torch arrived in Volgograd on Monday, the Russian city where two suicide bombings took place last month. 34 people were killed and, understandably, security fears have been heightened in the run-up to next month’s Winter Games.

Along the relay route...the mood was festive, despite single digit temperatures. Lightly armed police and interior ministry officers guarded intersections...and traffic was shut down in much of the city center.

q]F(9y09sx9a=

Responsibility for the two bombings was claimed in a video released online to be the work of two suicide bombers who said attacks on the Olympics would be "revenge" for the deaths of Muslims around the world.

Increased police presence in Volgograd lasted a couple weeks, but locals say now the level of security appears to have largely dropped back to normal.

新一轮禽流感来袭 多人感染

yf7,P[DnDE~j(B3Yk

A fresh surge of bird flu is sweeping China, with a rapid increasing number of comfirmed cases. In recent days, 23 people in China have been infected with the H7N9 strain of bird flu, adding to at least 24 new cases last week. The World Health Organisation said more than 40 cases have been confirmed since 2014.

xTB[ftSOVu#7fP

Shanghai’s health authority reported two deaths caused by H7N9. Both patients died on Saturday. Neighbouring Zhejiang Province reported three new H7N9 cases on Sunday. All are in critical condition and being treated in hospital. The province has so far confirmed 23 cases in total in 2014.

Otv4XNb@i!=uFCfRWR

A China’s health offical says the viruses have been very active since December, with more than 200 cases confirmed since March last year. The WHO has warned that flu viruses might spread more widely with the upcoming holiday travel rush around Chinese New Year.
