Gunshots echo from Nairobi's besieged shopping mall as security forces monitor the ongoing standoff. The conflict at Westgate shopping mall is now in its fourth day with smoke still rising from what officials described as burning mattresses. On Saturday, militants from Somalia's al Shabaab Islamist group stormed the mall, killing at least 62 people and wounding 175. Kenya Red Cross says a number of people are still unaccounted for and "several hostages" remain held up inside. This woman is looking for her missing husband who was working at the Nakumatt supermarket inside the mall. Another woman, who was consoling the grieving woman, says they don't know if he is dead or alive.

So when we went to the crisis center, they told us they haven't got a list of those killed. We tell them: even if he is dead just let us know, so that at least we know that he is dead. But we are not getting anything so we are just stranded."

Violence erupts over low garment factory wages
Violent protests broke out near the Bangladeshi capital this week as thousands of garment factory workers clashed with police in protests over low wages. Hundreds of workers wielding sticks blocked rocks and attacked some vehicles. At least 50 people were injured including some policemen. The workers refusal to work forced more than 100 factories to shut down. The workers want $62 more per month in wages... from $38 dollars to 100. Wages were last increased in 2010 -- up, from just $19 dollars per month. Garments are vital to the Bangladeshi economy where low wages and duty-free access to Western markets have helped make it the world's second largest apparel exporter after China.

Criminal charges against teenager withdrawn
Police in Tianshui city, in northwestern Gansu province, have withdrawn criminal charges against a high school student for spreading rumors.
16-year Yang Hui was released on Monday after a week in detention. Yang posted comments online questioning the cause of a man’s death earlier this month, and calling for protests against the local government.
An investigation into the man’s death showed it was a suicide. Yang became the first person in China to face criminal charges for spreading rumors since a new interpretation on online rumor-mongering was implemented.
The new interpretation by the Supreme People’s Court stipulates that someone can be found guilty if posts containing rumors are forwarded on the internet over 500 times.
The case has triggered online debate over whether it’s right for this interpretation to apply to juveniles. Local police say Yang confessed to spreading rumors, and should be shown leniency.

Over the past few days, large parts of northern China have experienced a sharp fall in temperature.
As a new wave of cold air hit Northeast China’s Jilin Province, residents saw the biggest drop this autumn, with some areas falling more than 10 degrees Celsius. Health officials are warning people to keep warm.
In Liaoning Province, heavy rains and strong winds have battered the area since Monday morning, prompting authorities to issue a storm alert. The rains helped bring temperatures in the provincial capital Shenyang down to 18 degrees from a high of 25.
Further west, residents in China’s Gansu Province have already brought out their autumn clothes as temperatures dropped 6 degrees Celsius since this week. The sudden drop was also seen in North China’s Shandong Province. Temperatures dropped to 16 degrees Celsius in the city of Zibo and is expected to fall to 10 degrees by Wednesday.
