Just what action will come is unclear with British Prime Minister David Cameron saying it would need to be "proportionate."

In Syria, on the ground the foes of President Bashar al-Assad are hoping for any help they can get.

About 24 Thai demonstrators gathered outside the British embassy in Bangkok on Tuesday (August 27) to protest former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's upcoming appearance at a political forum. According to local media, the Thai government have paid Blair to speak at the one day forum that will discuss ways to bring peaceful reconciliation between the country's opposing political parties. The government has denied paying for anything other than Blair's accommodation in Thailand. Protesters handed over a letter to the British government, calling for Blair not to participate in what they call a lecture of political manipulation. Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is also expected to attend the event.

Home prices rise but at slower pace

Mortgage rates may be up- but home prices are still going up too. The S&P/Case-Shiller Price Index for June showed prices in their 20 city composite up 2.2 percent in June compared to May and up 12.1% from a year ago. It's more proof the housing market continues to recover - and help power the overall U.S. economy. The biggest hikes: San Francisco and Las Vegas- on average it will cost about 25% more for the same house than it would have a year ago. But survey co-founder and Yale professor Robert Shiller is skeptical about those kind of spikes. He says, "none of this is for real. The housing market has gotten very speculative and it goes through big cycles." And while the overall report shows that housing prices are on a rise- David Blitzer, chairman of the index committee at the S&P Dow Jones Index has a warning, he says "with the interest rates rising to almost 4.6 percent, home buyers may be discouraged and sharp increases may be dampened." He adds that other housing news is positive but not as robust as well. Data last week showed sales of new homes fell 13 percent.

Shanghai police have arrested a foreign couple for illegally obtaining information that infringed upon the privacy of Chinese citizens. This is the first case of foreigners being arrested for privacy infringement in China.
57-year-old Peter Humphrey, from Britain, and 60-year-old Yu Ying Zeng, from the United States, have confessed to breaching privacy laws.
In 2003, they registered Chinawhys Limited, a shell company in Hong Kong. It was the start of a ten year profitable -- but illegal -- business.
Just a year later, they registered another company in Shanghai, and hired a dozen employees.
Every year they earned profits as high as 6 million yuan from about 100 clients.
More than five hundred investigation reports were found among company records, some of them severely infringing on the privacy of Chinese citizens.
Lu Wei with Criminal Invest. Division of Shanghai Public Security Bureau said, "These mainly include household registration information, vehicle and property information and exit-entry records."
Most of Humphrey and Yu’s clients were transnational corporations, including manufacturing companies, financial institutions and law firms.
The couple obtained people’s personal information at prices ranging from 800 to2,000 Yuan.
Using that information, they then sold their investigation reports at more than 10,000 Yuan.
Suspect Peter Humphrey said, "We sometimes use illegal methods to obtain personal information. I very much regret doing this,and I want to apologize to the Chinese government."
The case is still under investigation.
Early in August, Shanghai police arrested 126 people for privacy infringement, 35 of whom are now under criminal detention.

China's top-level domain name service "DOT C-N" has been hacked in what the government has called the largest ever attack on China's internet address server. An Official from the China Internet Network Information Center described the attack as unprecedented.
Qi Ln, deputy director of China Internet Network Information Center, said, "The first wave began at about midnight. It lasted around two hours and interrupted services. The problem was fixed by our engineers at around 2 am. Only a few users were affected. At 4 am, another wave came. This is the largest-ever attack on the Chinese domain name servers in history.
"Luckily, the attack did not affect many internet-users. The operation of the dot C-N domain name resumed at 9 am on Sunday morning."
More than 2.9 million websites have been registered with the extension ".CN", including governmental websites. Analysts say,given the scale of the attack, it was more likely to involve an organization than ordinary hackers. Qi said it is against the law in China to attack important computers and information systems. The government will conduct an investigation soon into who might have been behind it.
