1【Obama defends Israel's right to protest itself】 奥巴马支持以色列维护自身权利
As violence rages on the Middle East, U.S. President Barack Obama in Thailand defended Israel's right to protect itself.U.S. PRESIDENT, BARACK OBAMA, SAYING: "There's no country on Earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders. So we are fully supportive of Israel's right to defend itself from missiles landing on peoples homes and workplaces and potentially killing civilians." At least 11 Palestinian civilians, including four children, were killed on Sunday in what Hamas said was an Israeli air strike on a Gaza apartment building. It was highest death toll in a single incident in five days of fighting. Israel signaled that it may launch a ground invasion of the Hamas-run enclave as the next stage of its offensive. Israel has said it hopes to stop Palestinian rocket fire into the Jewish state, as well as spell out its conditions for a truce.

In his first state visit since winning re-election, U.S. President Barack Obama arrives in Thailand. After a welcoming ceremony in Bangkok, Obama met with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday. The two leaders met to promote bilateral ties and mark 180 years of friendship between their countries. Obama also took time to visit the world's longest-reigning monarch, Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej in the hospital, and tour a temple with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The American delegation will also stop in Myanmar to encourage democratic reforms and Cambodia for regional summit meetings.

Myanmar prepares for a high-profile visit from U.S. President Barack Obama. His trip to Yangon on Monday makes him the first sitting U.S. president to visit the country. It also signals support for reforms enacted since military rulers handed power to a semi-civilian government last year. He is scheduled to meet Myanmar's president, as well as popular opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. American tourists in Myanmar, whose numbers have increased since the transition, said they approved of growing U.S. engagement. UNITED STATES TOURIST FROM ILLINOIS, BEN WARNER, SAYING: "I don't think it could be too fast. I think the more that we support changing countries into democracies, the better off the world will be."UNITED STATES TOURIST FROM ILLINOIS, SY NAGORSKY, SAYING: "Sometimes in a country like this that's making moves forward, you need to be a little bit sensitive to where the people come from. So I think that he should measure his words and think about what he's saying." 1【50 killed in Egypt as train hits school bus】埃及火车撞校车致50人死亡
Fifty people, mostly children, were killed in Egypt when a train slammed into a school bus as it crossed tracks in a city south of Cairo. All but two of the dead were children, aged around four to eight. One woman and a man, thought to be the bus driver, also died. According to state TV, the railway crossing was open when the train hit the bus. The crossing worker was asleep. He has been detained. Transport Minister Mohamed Rashad submitted his resignation after the accident. In a televised address, President Mohamed Mursi accepted Rashad's resignation and offered his condolences to the victims of the crash. He said that those responsible for the accident would be held to account after an investigation. Egypt's roads and railways have a poor safety record and Egyptians have long complained that successive governments have failed to enforce even basic safeguards, leading to frequent, deadly crashes.

Astronauts at the International Space Station (ISS) say goodbye, as three crew members board a capsule for the journey back to Earth. Sunita Williams of the United States was one of three members of the Expedition 33 crew, who spent 125 days aboard the space station. They conducted several experiments during their visit, including tests on radiation. As the hatch closed on the Russian-built Soyuz capsule, the astronauts began their journey home. Back on Earth, they landed safely in Kazakhstan, where a recovery team helped extract the astronauts one by one. Command of the space station has been handed to NASA astronaut Kevin Ford. He and two other crew members will be joined by another group of astronauts on December 15th. The International Space Station is a multi-billion dollar research complex, involving 15 countries from around the world.
