Hello, I'm Oli from Oxford Online English.Today, we have a free lesson about the IELTS writing exam.
大家好,我是奥利,欢迎来到牛津在线英语。今天,我们要给大家免费上一堂关于雅思考试写作部分的课。
Many English learners are studying English because they want to work or study in an English speaking country.
很多英语学习者学习英语是因为他们想在讲英语的国家工作或学习。
For many students, that means taking an IELTS exam, which tests all the main skills: speaking, reading, listening, and writing.
对很多学生来说,这就意味着他们要参加雅思考试,在这个考试中听说读写各项主要技能都会涵盖。
For many English learners, the writing part of the IELTS exam is the most difficult.
雅思考试的写作部分对很多英语学习者来说是最难的部分。
In this lesson, I'll share some simple advice for anyone who's planning to take IELTS or wants to get a better score in the writing.
在这堂课中,我会给所有计划参加雅思考试,或者想在写作部分取得更好成绩的人提供一些简单的建议。
Point one, answer the question! It's the most important point, I know it sounds obvious, it sounds stupid.
第一条建议:回答问题!这是最重要的一点,我知道听起来好像大家都知道这一点,把它作为一条建议似乎太蠢了。
But I've taught writing classes to a lot of people and this is problem number one.
但是我给很多人上过写作课,这是他们遇到的最大的问题。
Remember, everything you write should address the question directly.
记住,你写的每一个字都应该直接回答题目所问。
Even if you write in perfect English, the examiners cannot give you marks for writing which doesn't answer the question.
如果你写出来的作文答非所问,那么即使你的英语写得再完美,阅卷老师也不能给你分。
So, read the questions carefully and think before you write to make sure your answer is relevant.
所以一定要仔细审题,下笔之前好好想想,确保自己写出来的内容不会跑题。
Don't try to use something you've memorized.Don't try to use something you've written before. It won't work.
不要用你背过的内容。不要把你以前写过的内容生搬硬套过来,没有用的。
Number two, structure and organize your writing.Essay structure is really important.
第二条建议:组织好作文结构。作文的结构非常重要。
First of all, it helps you to organize your ideas in a logical way.
首先,它有助于合理地组织想法。
Secondly, a well-structured essay is much easier for the examiner to read and understand.
其次,结构明晰的作文更便于阅卷老师审阅和理解。
You can have really good ideas and you can write in perfect English, but if you don't organize your ideas well, your essay won't be easy to read and understand.
如果无法合理地把想法组织起来,那么即使你的想法再好,英文写得再完美,作文还是无法让人轻易看懂和理解。
The examiner will not spend a lot of time trying to read and understand your essay.
阅卷老师不会花大把时间努力看清和弄懂你的作文写了什么。
The examiner will simply decide that your writing is not clear and give you a lower score.
他只会直接认为你的作文表达不清晰,然后给你比较低的分数。
So, how can you structure your essay? Here are some important points.
那么,应该如何组织作文结构呢?下面几点很重要。
Plan before you write, even if you just spend a minute thinking about what you're going to say and in what order.
动笔之前做好规划,即使是只花一分钟的时间想想要按什么顺序写什么内容也行。
Just spending that minute thinking is really important.
用那一分钟的时间来思考非常重要。
Write in paragraphs. Each paragraph should have one main idea.
给作文分段。每一段应有一个中心思想。
Practice writing introductions and conclusions.
作文开头和结尾要多加练习。
Remember, introductions and conclusions need to bring your ideas together without just repeating all of your points.
记住,你在开头和结尾中要把你的想法整体阐述一遍,而不是把每个观点一个一个重复写出来。
Start each paragraph with a topic sentence.
每一段用主题句开头。
A topic sentence tells your reader what you're going to talk about in the rest of the paragraph.
主题句会让你的读者知道你在这一段中要写些什么。
It's like a summary at the beginning of the paragraph so that the reader will not be surprised by anything you say.
就像放在每段开头的总结一样,这样你的读者就不会对你后面写的内容感到意外了。
This way, the examiner knows what you want to say and it will be easier to follow your ideas.
按照这种方法,阅卷老师就知道你要写些什么了,也能更容易了解你的意思。
Number three, don't worry about ideas. It's not a test of your knowledge."But I don't know what to write about!"
第三条建议:不要担心没东西可写。这场考试测试的不是你的知识面。“但是我不知道要写些什么啊!”
This is what many IELTS students say and complain about, especially for question two of the writing paper.
很多考雅思的学生都会这么抱怨,尤其是在作文的第二部分。
But remember, IELTS is an international exam.
但是记住,雅思考试是一场国际性的考试。
The questions are written to be relevant to students all around the world, of all ages.
设置的题目是与世界各地各年龄段的考生息息相关的。
Men, women, people in jobs, people at home, it's supposed to be relevant for everybody.
无论性别、职业如何,题目内容是与每个人都息息相关的。
IELTS is not an intelligence test, it's not a test of your knowledge.
雅思考试不是智商测试,测试的不是你的知识面。
The most important thing is to use your ideas and experiences to answer the question.
最重要的就是结合你自己的想法和经历来作答。
When you read the question, ask yourself "What's my opinion on this topic?" and "What examples can I use from my life experience to support my opinions?"
审题时问问自己:“我对于这个话题的观点是什么?”以及“我能用自己生活经历中的哪些例子来佐证我的观点?”
That's all you need to think about, you don't need any specialist knowledge.
以上就是你要思考的全部内容,并不需要任何专业性知识。
You just need to use your life, your experiences, your ideas in an answer.
你只需要用自己的生活、经历和想法作答即可。
Point four, understand the word count. The word count rules in IELTS are often misunderstood.
第四条建议:弄懂字数要求。大家经常误解雅思考试的字数要求。
When they say 250 words, that means 250 words minimum. You need to write 250 words or more.
题目中写了250个字时,意思是最少250个字。你要写250字及以上。
If you write less, you'll lose marks. There is no maximum, but that doesn't mean you should try to write more.
如果字数少于250字,你就要丢分了。试卷中没有字数上限要求,但这并不意味着写得越多越好。
Ideally, you should limit your answers to 10-15% above the minimum.
你最好应该把字数限制在超过最低字数的10%-15%。
So that means, maximum, 160-170 words for question one and maximum 270-290 words for question two.
也就是说,小作文的字数不超过160-170,大作文不超过270-290。
Writing more doesn't get you more marks and it can also cause problems with time management.
不是写得越多分数就越高,写得过多可能还会带来时间分配上的问题。
Most students don't feel that the time limit is comfortable.
大多数学生对时间限制都会感到一些不适。
Obviously, writing more will take longer and you might have time problems.
显然,写得越多花的时间就越长,那么时间可能就会不够。
Point five, pay attention to register and style, but don't try to show off.
第五条建议:注意语体和风格,但切勿卖弄。
You need to write in an appropriate style to get the highest marks.
要得到最高的分数,你需要按照恰当的风格写作。
So, for example, don't use contractions like we'll, it's, or I'd.Don't use slang or conversational English.
举个例子,不要使用像"we'll, it's, I'd"这样的缩写形式。不要用俚语或口头语。
Use neutral and formal vocabulary and try to use a wide range of vocabulary in your writing.
使用中性词和正式词汇,在写作时尽量使用各种不同的词汇。
However, do not use a word just because you want to impress the examiner.
但是,不要仅仅为了给阅卷老师留下深刻印象而使用某个单词。
Many students do this and it's always really obvious, and it sounds bad as well.
很多学生都会这么做,这种做法太明显了,而且效果也不好。
I know and I understand, you think, "I've learned this really interesting word and now I want to use it."
你可能会想:“我学了一个非常有意思的单词,现在我想把它用上”,我知道你的意思,我也表示理解。
Okay, I understand, but you should choose your words because they're the best ways to express your ideas, not just because you think they sound good.
我理解,但是你选择用这些词应该是因为它们能最好地表达出你的想法,而不仅仅是因为你觉得它们听起来很厉害的样子。
