讲解：
以曲线图表示成长的态势，陡峭的上升线（steep rise)表示快速成长。成长到达高原期后，速度会变慢，曲线则从陡峭的上升逐渐趋于水平（level)，这种变化就是level off。同样地，曲线下降到谷底后转趋水平，也是level off。
