1 200 million years ago,

在大约两亿年前

our planet looked very different fromwhat it does today.

地球看起来与今天的迥然不同

A looks different from B表示“A看起来和B不同”，注意different后边搭配的介词用from。

我给你举几个例子：

But how would that be different from any other day?

但是这跟任何别的一天有何区别呢？

And how's it any different from what you do?

我做的跟你做的有什么区别呢？（你跟我一样）

2 We'll venture through the frozen wilderness of Antarctica,

我们将深入冰雪覆盖的南极荒野探险

where life thrives against the odds.

那里的动物们克服了极端环境 繁衍兴盛

venture表示“做一件冒险的事，去一个危险的地方”。

熟悉互联网领域的童鞋可能听过一个概念：风险投资，它对应的英文就是venture capital，取的就是venture表示冒险的这个意思。

我给你再举2个例子：

I will not venture there.

我不会去那里冒险的

Even today, the Western Woods is a haunted place where brave men will not venture.

即使到今天，西树林仍然是一个闹鬼的地方，勇士也不敢擅闯

wilderness表示野外，荒郊野岭。读作 /?w?ld?rn?s/，注意不要读成 /?wa?ld?rn?s/。

我们来看2个例句

You're not living in the wilderness anymore.

你不是在住在野外了

We did overnight survival training in the wilderness.

我们昨晚进行了野外生存训练

Antarctica表示“南极洲”，读作/?n?tɑrkt?k?/。

venture through the frozen wilderness of Antarctica就表示冒着巨大风险穿越南极洲的荒原。

odds表示概率，against the odds可以理解为：跟概率做对抗。thrive against the odds则表示：尽管成功概率很低，但还是繁衍兴盛。

3 And to theriches of South America,

我们将探索富饶的南美洲

full of the unexpected.

那里处处充满惊奇

rich是形容词表示富有的，riches则变成了名词，表示财富。我给你举个例子

Don't fight for riches, because you won't get any.

不要为了财富而战，那样你得不到财富的

但是在这里the riches of South America并不是说南美洲的金银财宝，David老爷子怎么会那么俗呢，这里的riches指的是丰富的物种，富饶的景观。

4 From the wilds of Africa,

还会从野性十足的非洲荒野

to the vast expanses of North America

到北美洲的广袤土地

and the searing heat of Australia.

再到炽热难耐的澳大利亚

wild是形容词表示“野外的，野性的”，它同时也可以做名词，表示“荒野，野外”。

the wilds of Africa就表示非洲的荒野。我们来看一个例子

Sometimes, I feel like a creature in the wilds whose natural habitat is gradually being destroyed.

有时候，我感觉自己就像一个在荒野里的生物，自己的居住环境被一点一点的毁灭

expand是动词，表示扩展，扩张。expanse是名词，表示覆盖面积很大的一块土地，水域等。

这个有点抽象，我们来看2个例句

The universe...

宇宙...

a vast expanse of space and matter.

无边无际 包罗万象

So I'd come here

于是我逃到这里

and I'd look out at this

凝视着

vast, limitless expanse.

海天一线 广阔无垠

searing这个词你可能是头一次见到，我们先看2个例句感受一下

Get a pen, write this down.

快记下来

I want one no-foam, skimmed latte...

一杯脱脂拿铁

with an extra shot and three coffees with room for milk.

多加一份咖啡 三杯美式咖啡 留空间倒牛奶

Searing hot. and I mean hot.

记得要够烫 要滚烫

All right, come on, let's get out of here.

好了 来吧 咱们赶紧离开这

I'm not okay.

我有事

Searing pain, searing pain.

脚剧痛 脚剧痛

通过这2个例句，再结合视频中的原句，你就能感受到：searing常常用来修饰温度很高。可以说the searing heat，也可以说searing hot。

searing不光可以修饰温度，还可以修饰疼痛，表示非常疼，searing pain。

5 We'll explore the remote reaches of Asia,

我们将踏足亚洲的偏远角落

home to rarely seen creatures.

寻找那些与世隔绝 难得一见的珍稀动物

And Europe, a world transformed by humanity.

我们将漫步欧洲 感受这个被人类改造的世界

reach做动词，表示触达。做名词则表示“能触达的最远的边界”。the remote reaches of Asia就表示亚洲的最远的角落。

我们来看一个例句吧

His hands shaped events

他一手造就了

resulting in the erection of the new arena.

新竞技场的落成

He supplies slaves from the furthest reaches

他从遥远的边陲引进奴隶

of the Republic to speed its completion.

来加快竞技场的工期

the furthest reaches of the Republic就表示共和国能触达的最远的角落。

6 Never has it been a more important time

现在到了最关键的时刻

to reveal the precious diversity of life

展现七大洲多彩生命的任务

on our seven continents.

变得刻不容缓

Never has it been...这是一个倒装句，正常语序应该是It has never been...

这里我觉得是David口误，正确的说法应该是There has never been a more important time..., 或者是倒装之后的Never has there been a more important time...

这种倒装句式比较复杂，我们来看2个例子

It is vulnerable to impact.

受到碰撞时很脆弱的

That's not true.

你在骗人

You've had several other accidents--

之前的几次意外中

Never has there been any data loss.

从未出现过数据丢失的情况

But regardless of how you feel when you watch poor Oedipus,

但无论你观看可怜的伊底帕斯时，感觉如何

never has there been a more salient reminder

最明显的提醒是

that no matter how bad things get,

无论事情有多坏

at least you didn't kill your father and marry your mother.

至少你并没有杀父娶母
