3．形容词转换为动词

(sure 是形容词，译成汉语时转换为动词确保。)

英语中有些表示知觉、情绪、欲望等心理状态的形容词，作表语时，常可转成汉语动词。这类形容词有：able, afraid, angry, ashamed, aware, anxious, careful, cautious, certain, concerned, confident, doubtful, glad, grateful, ignorant (不知道)，sorry, thankful等。 如：

I am very concerned about her.

我非常挂念她。

I am grateful to you for helping me.

感谢你的帮助。

4．汉语动词转换为英语形容词

与英语的形容词转换为汉语的动词相反，汉语动词常转换为英语be+ 形容词的结构。如：

你熟悉晶体管放大器的性能吗？

Are you familiar with the performance of this type of transistor amplifier?

我为她的健康担忧。

I am anxious about her health.

我们切不可满足于仅仅有一点点书本知识 。

We should never be content with a little book knowledge only.

他会不会来值得怀疑。

It is doubtful that he will come.

5. 英语形容词转译成名词

英语中有些形容词加上定冠词表示某一类的人，汉译时常译成名词。

We must respect the old and love the young .

我们应该敬老爱幼。

The two compounds are both acids, the former is strong, the latter weak.

这两种化合物都是酸，前者是强酸，后者是弱酸。

英语某些表示事物特征的形容词作表语时可转译成名词，其后往往加上性、度、体等。

This workpiece is not more elastic than that one.

这两个工件都没有弹性。

Glass is much more soluble than quartz.

玻璃的可溶性比石英大得多。

此外，根据实际情况，有些形容词也可以译成名词。

Stevenson was eloquent and elegant —— but soft.

史蒂文森有口才、有风度，但很软弱 。

The Smiths were religious.

史密斯一家都是虔诚的教徒。
