What Happens When You Eat Too Much
Thanksgiving dinner: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, more turkey, cranberry sauce, even more turkey? uhhh…
Still have room for that pie? For now, unbutton your eating pants, flop on the couch and let’s learn why you feel so full after a big meal.
Part of the reason is physical.
Your stomach can stretch to a volume of about one liter – that’s about the size of a burrito.
When you eat a big meal, you fill your stomach to its limits, squeezing against your other organs and making your abdomen feel, well, full.
Your stomach and intestines also fill with gases as you eat, adding to that swollen sensation. Each time you swallow a bit of air goes along for the ride, even more if you’re drinking soda or beer.Inside your stomach, the gas that makes your drink fizzy fills more space than the liquid it came in.
Fortunately, your body has a good way to get rid of excess gas in the stomach:burp
For some people, another uncomfortable result of a big meal is heartburn.
The stomach produces hydrochloric acid to break down food.
More food to break down means more acid, which can irritate the lining of the stomach and creep into the esophagus, leading to that burning feeling.
Antacid tablets use bases (remember the opposite of an acid is a base) like calcium carbonate to neutralize the acid.
That reaction produces more carbon dioxide, which can increase that full feeling,at least until your next burp.
The other part of feeling full is mental. When you’ve had enough to eat, the body’s messenger molecules, hormones, let the brain know its time to stop.
It’s time to stop!
When you eat a high-calorie meal, cells in your intestines secrete a hormone called peptide tyrosine-tyrosine or PYY.
Not PYT! That’s a Michael Jackson song!
When PYY reaches the brain, it binds with receptors that give you the feeling that you’re full, or even a little queasy.
Some hormones react more strongly to meals heavy in fats, carbohydrates or proteins, but they all serve the same purpose:to get you to put down that fork!
So the next time your mom asks you if you want seconds, maybe take a minute to listen to what your body’s trying to tell you.
Or just keep stuffing your face,I don’t care really.
But don’t be surprised if you’re not feeling so good after.

China's meteorological authority has raised a weather alert for typhoon Mujigae, which is expected to batter China's southern regions tomorrow. The 22nd typhoon of the year, Mujigae has entered the northern part of the South China Sea. It is moving northwest at a speed of 20 km per hour with strengthening force.
The storm is expected to land on coastal areas of northeast Hainan Province on Sunday before noon. The typhoon will bring gales to coastal regions of Guangdong and Hainan provinces in the coming two days. Most parts of Hainan and southwestern Guangdong will see heavy or torrential rain.
Passenger vessels operating in waters between Hainan island and the mainland have all been suspended since Friday evening. Fishing boats in the province were also asked to stay at port from Saturday morning to avoid the typhoon.

China's high-speed railway technology has made huge strides in the past decade. The development of China's rail lines, which has expanded abroad, is central to the country's monumental trade route projects. Quality and safety are always concerns. CCTV's Hou Yun files this report from a testing center in Beijing used by a leading Chinese high-speed train manufacturer.
It's Mid-autumn Day in China, and families are marking the festival together.
But at this testing center used by Qingdao Sifang Corporation, engineers and workers are busy carrying out tests on new bullet trains.
The train - developed and built entirely in China - can reach speeds of 350 kilometers per hour.
The company has placed great emphasis on safety, equipping wheels with flanges - a projecting rim around the rail to prevent the train from derailing.
Comfort is not forgotten with passengers enjoying free Wifi and multi-function seating.
Perhaps most important is the country's integrated standard for train manufacturing... which means that two passenger cars produced by different companies can be seamlessly connected.
"There is no similar technology in the world so far. This demonstrates China's world-leading capability in system integration," Tao Guidong, deputy director of tech. center, CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., said.
China has over 1,900 bullet trains running across its railway network.
And the success of China's high-speed rail sector has not gone unnoticed overseas.
Since June, Chinese companies have struck high-speed rail deals in countries including the US, Russia and India.
The booming sector will in turn help make China's Belt and Road Initiative a reality...as transportation is the key to connecting the nations along the economic belt.
"The high-speed railway of China can facilitate the 'One Belt One Road' strategy through three aspects. Firstly, it will help form the infrastructure to promote the goods and passenger flows between China and Asian countries. Second, it will release the cargo capacity of conventional lines, so as to establish an advanced logistic system. The last is to help the export of Chinese high-speed railway products and to deepening the economic cooperation between China and other countries," Li Hongchang, associate professor of Beijing Jiaotong University, said.
At last year's APEC Summit in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping said 'only when there is a road, can people and things flow'... in a clear reference to the importance of transportation in the Belt and Road Initiative. China's advances in high-speed rail technology will ensure an unprecedented level of inter-connectivity between China and the rest of the world.
