Food Myths: Frozen veggies are less nutritious than fresh veggies.
Some say frozen veggies are less nutritious than fresh ones.So let’s take a walk through the wild and wonderful world of flash freezing.
First of all, when vegetables are chosen for freezing, they’re picked at the peak of their ripeness, which is also the peak of their nutritional value.
Before they’re frozen, they’re dunked in boiling water and quickly cooled to preserve their quality and to get rid of dirt and organisms.
It’s a process called blanching.
Enzymes found in veggies help them grow and ripen but after peak ripening, these enzymes will begin to break down the vegetables, and reduce their nutritional value.
Blanching deactivates this enzyme induced breakdown and only causes a slight loss of some water soluble vitamins.
When frozen, veggies will maintain their quality for a little over a year.
So thanks to that enzymatic deactivation, your frozen veggies may be nutritionally better off than fresh ones that have been sitting on the shelf too long after peak ripeness.
So yeah, frozen is a go!
Alright folks, you know the deal.

A US-led coalition has carried out over a dozen airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.
A US military statement says 12 air raids hit ISIL targets near the Iraqi cities of Mosul, Kirkuk and Ramadi. A further five air strikes hit militant positions in Syria. This comes after the US and its allies carried out 14 airstrikes in the two countries on Thursday.
With the help of the US-led airstrikes, Kurdish forces have been able to drive the militants out of the autonomous Kurdistan region in Iraq. But ISIL remains a major threat in the country. Meanwhile, in Syria, the militants have established their de-facto capital in Raqqa, and control much of the surrounding area.

China says that the United States is now the Chinese mainland's third-largest outbound direct investment destination, after Hong Kong and Australia.
Vice Minister of Commerse Zhang Xiangchen, said Chinese enterprises had set up over 3,000 companies in the United States by the end of 2014, and had invested over US$ 65 billion, providing nearly 80,000 jobs through direct investment.
But due to the relatively late arrival of Chinese investors, this still only accounts for one percent of the US's total foreign direct investment. Zhang also commented on the potential rate rise by the U-S Federal Reserve, saying that, if implemented, it will only have a limited impact on China's investment in the country.
Of course the host country's macroeconomic policies, including interest rate policies, will be put into consideration when Chinese companies make investment moves. but more importantly, they will seek their development opportunity from the perspective of global industry.
Data over the first eight months of this year shows Chinese companies remain highly interested in investing in the US. China and US are highly complementary in the areas of investment, so we believe Chinese investment in the US will cotinue to grow at high-speed," Zhang Xiangchen said.
