Foreign ministers from six countries reach an historic deal with Iranian officials on reducing the country's nuclear programme in exchange for limited sanctions relief. U.S. President Barack Obama spoke from the White House moments after the deal was reached.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) UNITED STATES PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING: "Today that diplomacy opened up a new path toward a world that is more secure... A future in which we can verify that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful and that it cannot build a nuclear weapon."

Details of the agreement include Iran's commitment to stop expanding its uranium enrichment program and to provide IAEA inspectors daily access to it's nuclear facilities. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told reporters the deal will help remove doubts about the purpose of the country's nuclear programme.

All parties involved have agreed the deal is only a first step. The preliminary pact would run for six months while world leaders and Tehran hammer out a broader, longer-term settlement.

Icy roads and a fresh layer of snow are being blamed for 30 accidents in Texas. At least eight people were killed in rollover accidents and collisions along the interstate. What is being called a "Nordic Outbreak" is due to bring more snow and ice to Amarillo and New Mexico. White out conditions on this stretch of highway roughly eighty miles outside of Albuquerque. A winter storm warning is in effect for the area and at least five inches of snow are expected.

Riot police shoot water cannons at protesters in the Turkish capital of Ankara. Around three-thousand were protesting controversial government education policies. Two weeks ago, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said new regulations could be drawn up to stop male and female students from living together in dormitories. Some say this as an intrusion of privacy. The government had already shut down mixed accommodations in 75 percent of state-run student housing.

South Korean tech giant Samsung electronic is taking a hit in court. A Silicon Valley jury has added $290 million dollars more to the damages Samsung Electronics owes Apple. The decision brings the total settlement to $930 million dollars.
An eight-member jury decided the amount on Thursday after a week long trial in the federal court in San Jose. The world’s two biggest smartphone makers are locked in a fierce battle for the $300 billion global market. Apple has argued Samsung’s Android-based phones copy vital iPhone and ipad features, while Samsung claims some key Apple patents are invalid and that Apple has copied Samsung’s technology.

The death toll from Friday’s oil pipeline blasts in east China’s Shandong Province has risen to 52, while 11 others are still missing.
The powerful blast rocked the Huangdao district, located on the southwest outskirts of Qingdao City. The blast ripped apart roads and damaged buildings, spilling oil into the sea and over a large area of land.
Local authorities have set up barriers and are now cleaning up the oil spill. More than 30 ships have also been dispatched to help. Most of the oil around the port has now been cleaned up.
