Some 140 people are injured in a collision between two trains on the outskirts of Rio de Janieiro, according to local media. Authorities say one of the trains was stopped at a station when the other one crashed into it from behind, jolting the passengers.

Injured passengers were rushed to four health care centers in the surrounding area. According to some witnesses, thieves were taking advantage of the chaotic scene:

The accident, which followed a day of wet and stormy weather, is under investigation.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for this attack.

Ex-mayor's wife arrested in case of missing Mexican students

The wife of the former mayor of Iguala, Mexico has now been formally arrested in connection with the abduction and possible murder of 43 students. The students went missing in September from the southwestern town after clashing with police. Mexican authorities say Maria de Los Angeles Pineda Villa and her husband are the possible masterminds in the case. The couple went on the run but were arrested in November in Mexico City. An official from the Mexican Attorney General's office said on Monday a federal judge issued an arrest warrant for the wife and she has been transferred to a high security prsion in western Mexico. A small group of protesters gathered outside to call for justice for the missing students.

Ukraine's army receives a boost from President Petro Poroshenko. He's handed over modernized military equipment, like upgraded fighter jets and armored personnel carriers. This lineup was made possible by Ukraine's 2015 budget, which includes 5 billion dollars in defense spending.... a show of might in the face of a crisis, as more than 4,700 people have been killed in a months-long battle between Kiev's forces and pro-Russian rebels. But Poroshenko says he hopes to end the conflict by diplomatic means, despite the military upgrade. (SOUNDBITE)(Ukrainian) UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT PETRO POROSHENKO, SAYING: "During this seven months the new Ukrainian army, new Ukrainian forces were born. We can say that by the fighters' spirit, by the equipment this is one of the most powerful armies in Europe." A fragile ceasefire, signed in September, has been holding in the east... though both sides accuse each other of regularly breaking it. Doubts are being cast on whether a proposed four-way summit this month on the Ukrainian crisis can yield results.

China has been steadily working on land reform for years, and it's benefited many farmers. In China, urban land is owned by the state and rural land is normally under collective ownership. This can be traced back to the founding of the People's Republic in 1949, and the establishment of socialistic public ownership.
Gradual reforms since the 1980s saw the trading of urban land evolve into a vigorous property market. Land in the countryside has remained largely static. Farmers mostly have use rights, but cannot directly trade or mortgage them.
The new round of reform encourages circulation of land use rights on the open market. This encourages diversified agricultural business models and brings more opportunities.
Farm leasing among villagers is the most popular form of rural land transfer. Land transfers to rural cooperatives and local enterprises have also been growing.
