According to a member of his delegation, Putin plans to leave the G20 summit early, after Western leaders blasted Moscow for the crisis in Ukraine and threatened more sanctions. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is quoted telling Putin, "I guess I'll shake your hand but I have only one thing to say to you: you need to get out of Ukraine." The conflict in the east has claimed more than 4,000 lives. And a fragile ceasefire is dangling by a thread. Yet Russia denies it's involved in a recent escalation of military activity in Ukraine. But it's certainly the topic of conversation... In a one-on-one meeting between Putin and British Prime Minister David Cameron, the conflict in Ukraine was the only matter discussed. A Russian official says the reason Putin plans to leave the summit early is because he needs to attend meetings in his own country.

Protesters in Italy throw flares at police, angry over reforms their government is planning. Union members and students across the country don't want the change in job protection rules that could make it easier for companies to hire and fire people. They say it will undermine worker rights.

But he's said he's come home not just for treatment, but for revenge against his former allies, Serbia's president and prime minister.

The US Defense Department says North Korea fields a military that retains the capability to inflict serious damage on its neighbor to the south. It's a capability that North Korean state television - and Kim Jong Un - appear happy to demonstrate.

The global crude oil prices have been dropping since June due to weak demand from Asia and Europe. The benchmark U.S. crude fell nearly three U.S. dollars, or 4 percent, to close at 74.21 U.S. dollars on Thursday.
In total, the oil price has declined in the past five months more than 30 percent to reach its lowest level since September 2010. For oil companies, the low prices are eating their revenues and profits. But on the other hand, analysts say the low prices could benefit economies like the U.S. because both companies and individual consumers are paying less for fuel.
The U.S. Energy Department said recently that low fuel prices are expected to last into next year, and predicted the average price for the year will be $2.94 a gallon, which is about 13 percent lower than previous expectations.
