As Germany prepares to commemorate 25 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the man who was in the middle of it all---former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev warns of a new Cold War as Russia and the West go toe to toe over Ukraine.

The world is on the brink of a new Cold War, some are even saying that it has already begun. And yet while the situation is so dramatic we do not see the main international body, the UN Security Council playing any role or taking concrete action."

Gorbachev was speaking in at a memorial event in Berlin where he will join world leaders on Sunday to commemorate the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall that ended the Cold War and led to the reunification of Germany.

Philippines remembers thousands killed in Hayian

Friends and family of some of thousands killed in typhoon Hayian in the Philippines last year gathered at a cemetery to remember their loved ones. At least 6300 people died when Hayian slammed into the country last year. Here in Tacloban, one of the worst hit regions, some 3000 graves are blessed by priests during a Catholic mass. Delia Torres lost her husband.

Demonstrations turned violent in Toulouse Saturday during a protest against the death of another demonstrator who was allegedly killed by police two weeks ago. The gathering of about 400 people escalated into a violent confrontation with protesters hurling projectiles and riot police firing tear gas. Saturday's demonstration was in protest of the death of 21 year old Remi Fraisse was found dead in late October with a wound to his back after a standoff with police. Fraisse was part of a demonstration against a proposed dam project in southern France.Tests on Fraisse's clothes suggest he was killed by grenade which have been used by police to disperse riots, although the devices were not previously thought capable of killing someone.

The fight against Ebola in Sierra Leone hits a roadblock as cases are soaring in the West African country because of a lack of treatment centers, according to a UN report. Fatu Filli, whose sister is battling the virus, says hospitals take too long to admit Ebola patients.
(SOUNDBITE) (Krio) SISTER OF EBOLA PATIENT, FATU FILLI, SAYING: "The government has said before that if you have any sick person at home you should call the emergency number, but you have to call several times, and even if they respond, it will be after two to four days. So the slow response is the problem and that is why people are afraid to come to the hospital." The deadly virus has killed more than 4000 people in West Africa. While neighboring Liberia and Guinea show signs of improvement, a majority of new cases have been reported in Sierra Leone. And then there's another challenge - Health officials say the outbreak is undermining confidence in the country's health system with people dying from other diseases, because they refuse to go to clinics for treatment.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto and a host of high-level officials will travel to the APEC Leaders Meeting and then begin a state visit to China.Mexico is Latin America’s second largest economy and it has been a member of the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum since 1993.
xico had just entered the North American Free Trade Agreement - or NAFTA -- with Canada and the United States.
For a decade, Mexico focused on its trade ties with the United States. According to the U.S. Trade Representative website , in 2012 commerce with Mexico totaled an estimated $536 billion dollars.
During a recent meeting with Mexico’s top economic officials and banking industry executives, President Enrique Pena Nieto briefly discussed APEC’s role in Mexico’s future.
"It has been a strategic free trade alliance among our countries, and for democracy and the rule of law, that has allowed us to form this Pacific alliance, which we also share with Chile, Peru and Colombia," says Enrique Pena Nieto, President of Mexico.
Mexico’s most important Asian trading partner is China. The leaders of both nations have already met on at least three other occasions in an effort to improve relations.
According to one expert, Mexico is looking for ways to increase its exports to China.
"China is demanding almost anything from semiconductors to shrimps to garments, oil, row material etc. It is interesting that more than 50% of Mexico’s exports to China today are mainly oil and copper," Nieto says.
Mexico took a strong step in the direction of increased trade with China and recently signed a contract worth $4.3 billion dollars to build what will be Latin America’s first high-speed train - linking the city of Queretaro and Mexico City.
After attending the APEC Leaders Meeting held in Beijing, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto will begin his official visit to the country and meet with Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping- a meeting aimed at improving trade ties.
