German FM meets with Ukraine protesters
德国外长会见乌克兰抗议者
It has been two weeks since protesters in Ukraine first took to the streets, demanding that President Viktor Yanukovich step down. On Wednesday night (December 4), thousands were still rallying at the Independence Square in Kiev. German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle met with some of the protesters, and told opposition leaders that the door to Europe "remains open" for Ukraine. Westerwelle was accompanied by Ukrainian boxing champion Vladimir Klitschko, who leads the opposition with his brother Vitaly. Protesters have condemned Yanukovich's decision to pull out of a trade deal with the European Union, in effect bringing Ukraine closer to Russia. While unrest grips his country, Yanukovich has embarked on a three-day visit to China, where he is seeking investors.

EU fines 6 global banks at a record 1.71 bln euros for rate-fixing
六大银行操纵利率被欧盟罚款17亿欧元
EU antitrust regulators have fined six financial institutions including Deutsche Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland and Citigroup,a record total of 1.71 billion euros for colluding to profit from the manipulation of key interest rates. It's the highest antitrust penalty ever.
Another round of fines for some of the world's biggest financial institutions. This time the punishment came from EU antitrust regulators.
Six institutions, Deutsche Bank, RBS, and Citigroup, along with Societe Generale, JP Morgan and broker RP Martin, have been fined a record 1.71 billion euros.
Their crime is rigging financial markets.
"What is shocking about the LIBOR and EURIBOR scandals is not just the manipulation of benchmarks, but these are very serious infringement, but also the setting up of genuine cartels between a number of financial players. With today's decision, we want to send a clear message that the Commission is determined to fight and sanction these cartels in the financial sector,"EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia says.
The penalty is the biggest yet in the rate-rigging scandal that's uncovered cartels in London, Tokyo and the euro area.
Several banks were involved, colluding on interbank lending rates.
The benchmarks are used to price hundreds of trillions of dollars in assets ranging from mortgages to derivatives.
Despite the record fines, some analysts say the sector is still attractive.
"I actually think they're one of the cheaper sectors. And they are very geared into an uptick in the economy. But you do have to expect these kind of nasty headlines occasionally when you open up the newspapers," Jessica Ground, Fund Manager of Schroders PLC, says.
The cartels were uncovered after UBS blew the whistle.
Along with Barclays, it's managed to escape any fines after helping with investigations.
But more penalties are expected. Credit Agricole, HSBC, JPMorgan and broker ICAP are all still under investigation.

2014世界杯比赛用球亮相 颜色绚丽多彩
The official ball for the 2014 World Cup was unvieled in Rio de Janeiro at a star-studded event, complete with international soccer stars and Brazilian celebrities.
There was a dazzling 3D light projection, which showed the adidas ball off in all its glory, the patterns on the ball refelct brazilain bracelet designs and the ball has a name it is the Brazuka.
Flamengo’s Hernan-ee gave his seal approval at the ceremony, We see him holding one of the balls that will be used at the World Cup in June. He wasn't the only footballer on hand.
Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf, who plays for Botafogo in Brazil and former Roma and Milan defender, Cafu, a native Brazilian were there too. All very lavish, I suppose it is just about the most important piece of equipment at the tournament.
There is some science, the "brazuca" went through a thorough testing process over two-and-a-half years and now it is ready and they have made a lot of them. They don’t want to run out.
All the teams will practice with these balls, so they get used to them, but you can be sure the goalies will use it as an excuse when they make a clanger.
"The Brazilians have always expressed an incredible energy from their fans during all the World Cups, and even during the Confederations (Cup), we’ve been able to see and feel the energy of the Brazilian fans. I think that’s going to be the big difference, besides the great qualities they have on the field during this World Cup, for the Brazilian team. I believe that the energy of the fans will be great." Clarence Seedorf, Botafogo Midfielder said.
