A mission comes to an end in Italy. On Friday the government said it would close a sea rescue mission that has saved the lives of more than 100,000 migrants from Africa and the Middle East. It's a move that one rights group warned that could lead to a "surge of deaths" in the Mediterranean. Authorities say ending the Italian mission would make way for a smaller European Union scheme and help relieve the strain on Italy's finances amid a three-year economic slump. Over the past year Italy has spent 114 million euros in its rescue operations. Italy has long called for the EU to do more to help migrants. Earlier this month, Rome finally agreed to give way to a more limited rescue mission called Triton, overseen by the EU. Any migrants picked up will still be brought to Italian ports and housed in immigration centers, though the vast majority of those who have been rescued over the past year did not stay in Italy for long, moving quickly to other EU countries. A major power outage plunged millions in Bangladesh into darkness Saturday -- even the prime minister's official residence. Local media reports say it was caused by the failure of a transmission power line, which transports electricity from India. Generators kicked in at the airport and main hospital of the capital, Dhaka, but scores of businesses struggled without power. Officials have given mixed signals about when power may be restored.

The Russian military conducts drills simulating conflict situations near the shared border with Ukraine. These scenes were filmed on Friday. They've been holding exercises there since April at the beginning of the conflict in eastern Ukraine between government forces and pro-Russian separatists. NATO members in the west of the country have also held drills in a show of support for Kiev. Nearly 4,000 people have been killed in the conflict in eastern Ukraine. A ceasefire's been in force since September but there have been isolated flareups of fighting.

Despite their banality, his videos have been watched nearly 150 million times. He's also just written a book. Again called Pointless - it went to the top of Amazon's best-sellers list. Ian Maude is a digital media analyst. He says the popularity is largely down to the platform. SOUNDBITE (English) IAN MAUDE, DIGITAL MEDIA ANALYST, ENDERS ANALYSIS, SAYING: "On Youtube you can have a relationship with these people. They have fan bases and they post messages onto their Youtube channels and they reply. Zoella, Alfie, and all these others. they actually reply to their fans they actually engage with them. I think that's something very new." It's also very lucrative. Take Felix Kjellberg for example, aka PewDiePie. He's thought to be earning up to 10 million pounds a year through adverts and endorsements. The vbloggers though are careful not to brag. Retaining the next-door neighbour look is key. SOUNDBITE (English) ALFIE DEYES, POINTLESSBLOG, SAYING: "People will often just be like: 'How much money do you make?' And I'm like 'Guys...'. Number one, you just wouldn't ask somebody how much money they make; number 2, that's not important; and number three, it's got nothing to do with them at all how much money I make. And it's not like a make a crazy amount, it's just enough to like pay the bills." No doubt it is, if your bills are in the 6 figures. They may not look like it, but these are the media moguls of tomorrow.

Chinese scientists onboard the Snow Dragon icebreaker, which is travelling through Arctic waters, have been treated to a rare sight of apolar bear in its natural habitat.
The polar bear seen by the Chinese scientists is said to be a male bear in its prime, around two meters in length and weighing at least four hundred kilograms. In what appears to be a sign curiosity to those onboard, the bear lingered beneath the vessel for a good thirty minutes, strolling on floated ice and occasionally laying down for a rest. But the scientists say the encounter might have been much less pleasant if they were on ice with the bear, as polar bears are known to be very territorial.
This is China’s sixth Arctic expedition, aimed at researching environmental changes in polar regions, which is endangering many species,including polar bears.
