记者从公安部交管局获悉，醉驾入刑3年多以来，公安机关年均检查近1亿人次，累计查处酒驾127.3万余起，醉驾22.2万余起。3年多来，公安机关平均每年出动警力2000余万人次，警车1200万辆次，年均检查车辆、实施唾液或者呼气检测近1亿人次。

据公安部周一的数据，过去三年，全国共查处酒驾（drinking and driving）127.3万起，办理醉驾案件（cases of drunken driving）22.2万件。
依据《中国刑事诉讼法》（Chinese Criminal Procedural Law），饮酒驾车是指车辆驾驶人员血液中的酒精含量大于或者等于20mg/100ml，小于80mg/100ml（more than 20 milligrams but less than 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood）的驾驶行为。醉酒驾车是指车辆驾驶人员血液中的酒精含量大于或者等于80mg/100ml（80 milligrams or more of alcohol for every 100 milliliters of blood）的驾驶行为。
依据2011年修订的《道路交通安全法》（Criminal Law and Road Traffic Safety Law），酒后驾驶面临着最高半年拘役（jail sentences）的处罚。
为保护公共安全（protect public safety）、保证民用交通环境（guarantee a civil traffic environment），警方将加大对涉酒驾驶（alcohol-related driving）的处罚力度，始终保持对酒驾的“零容忍（zero tolerance）”。
