China has rolled out the red carpet for the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin's arrival in Shanghai ahead of an Asia conference was received with all the full pomp and circumstance. The two countries are --for the moment in step -- and hoping to deepen ties. Ahead of his visit Putin said the cooperation between China and Russia was "at its highest level in history". The summit is drawing delegations from nearly 40 countries and organisations and it comes as both countries face international criticism. Russia has been condemned for its part in the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine and Moscow has also deployed troops near the border of Ukraine, sparking concerns about a possible invasion. For its part, China has attracted criticism for recent actions in the South China Sea. But while both countries see eye-to eye on many diplomatic issues,Russia is also looking to pursue an energy deal, which would see it pumping gas to China. This suits Beijing's drive to switch from coal use to cleaner fuels. But as a deal has yet to be reached, behind the scenes China may be driving a harder bargain than first thought.

Teargas and buckshot echoed above Cairo University where clashes Tuesday left one person dead and nine injured. The clashes broke out after students marched outside the university, condemning the police and military. The two sides have fought frequently at the university, which has become a major arena for protests by supporters of former President Mohamed Mursi. Mursi was overthrown by the military last July following mass protests against his rule. Three of the nine injured in the clashes were in critical condition.

Thousands of chefs and waiters gathered in Mexico City to break the world record for the most chefs gathered in one place at one time. Mexico City nabbed the title with 3,634 chefs. Before setting the record, waiters who had joined the cause took part in a waiters race to demonstrate their dedication to serving their clients.

Scores of freshly minted college degree holders will soon begin job hunting this summer. And while first tier cities such as Beijing and Shanghai tend to pay higher salaries, a growing number are looking for alternatives.
This moment only comes once in a life time . After 4 years of the pressure-cooking exams, students will finally mark their exit from school with graduation. And it’s called commencement for a reason. These students are set to begin their first jobs out of college. A popular aspiration amongst many is a job at a large multinational firm in Beijing or Shanghai, but some are reconsidering that choice.
"I had planned on finding a job in Beijing in my first year at university, but as time passed I changed my mind and preferred a stable job in my hometown. Lots of our senior school-mates who went to Beijing often told me how those big cities had become so crowded and competitive, and life isn’t easy there.” Zhang Shaobo, graduate from Shenyang,Liaoning Province, said.
And even finding a job considered well paying won’t be easy for many. Since China expanded the higher-education enrollments 15 years ago, annual numbers of college graduates have soared year after year. Coupled with a grim job market, many might need to contend with roles meant for those of lower qualifications.
"Most of the graduates today are from the single-child families where they were treated like "the little emperors". When someone is used to "instinct gratification", you can imagine what their reaction would be like when offered blue collar or manual jobs with salaries similar to the migrant workers without higher education.” Han Xuesong, director of Career Counseling Ctr., Liaoning Univ., said.
So to maximize chances of scoring employment befitting to college qualifications, universities are persuading graduates to shift their job expectations--accept lower wages or move to smaller cities which are less competitive. And numbers have reflected that mindset changes are taking place. Recent figures from China’s major job search website Zhaopin.com showed, many 2nd tier cities are in the top 10 of the most-favored cities for jobs.
"It’s not because these 1st tier cities are less attractive to the graduates, but those days of a "first come, first employed" practice are over in the 1st tier cities, the fierce competition there has made the graduates to look for jobs elsewhere with less pressure.” Han said.
And as many look to 2nd and 3rd tier cities, graduates will likely need to make minor lifestyle sacrifices,
For millions of young graduates, landing a job in a 1st tier city means more opportunities, modern amenities, and a more diversified cultural atmosphere; but this comes at a high price in terms of living costs and skyrocketing housing prices. So seeking jobs in smaller cities is a rational decision many graduates are taking. Such a move won’t just ease today’s tough employment market but also contribute to the growth of cities that have been kept mostly under the radar.

A spokesperson for China’s State Internet Information Office on Monday released the latest data detailing US cyber attacks in China.
The spokesperson said that the US is the biggest attacker of China’s internet. He added that the US charges of hacking against five Chinese military officers are groundless.
Latest data from China’s National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team Coordination Center showed that from March 19th to May 18th, a total of 2,077 Trojan horse networks or botnet servers in the US directly controlled 1.18 million host computers in China.
The center found 135 host computers in the US carrying 563 phishing pages targeting Chinese websites that led to 14, 000 phishing operations. In the same period, the center found 2,016 IP addresses in the US had implanted backdoors in 1,754 Chinese websites, involving 57, 000 backdoor attacks.
The spokesperson said the US attacks target Chinese leaders and ordinary citizens and can also target anyone with a mobile phone. The Chinese government opposes any kinds of Internet-related crimes, and any groundless accusations against the country. If the US goes its own way, China will take countermeasures, the spokesperson warned.
