Roads to El Rodeo have been blocked. The town has lost power, and is running out of provisions.

A bomb explodes near a police academy in Cairo on Saturday (January 25), as Egyptians prepare to celebrate the third anniversary of the uprising that ousted Hosni Mubarak. One person was wounded. The blast follows a wave of deadly bomb attacks on Friday (January 24) that targeted police. They raise fears that an Islamist insurgency is gaining momentum. An al-Qaeda inspired group has claimed responsibility for Friday's bombings. Since President Mohammed Mursi was toppled by the army last July, militants based in the Sinai have intensified their activities, killing hundreds of troops. Tahrir Square was sealed off on Saturday. Police and army were deployed heavily around Cairo, anticipating more violence. Supporters of army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi have begun to gather.

Thousands of Thai protesters marched in Bangkok on Saturday (January 25), after a court ruled that the general election may be postponed. Bangkok is under a 60-day state of emergency, but it has not stopped protesters from trying to force the prime minister to quit. The Election Commission sought court approval to postpone the polls, saying they may not be successful due to the tension. Protest leaders have repeatedly rejected the February 2 vote.

China has recently launched 7 new high-speed rail lines, making the country’s mileage account for more than half of the world’s total high-speed rails. And with the spring festival holiday just around the corner, a new travelling trend is emerging.
More and more people are choosing high-speed railways as their preferred mode of transportation to return home. Our reporter Su Yuting went to Guangzhou South Railway station, a major high-speed railway transportation hub in south China to speak to passengers about their travel experience.

Mr. Luo and his wife decided to take the Wuguang High-Speed Railway line to their family reunion. Their Travel time has been significantly shortened via this high-speed rail.
“This is the first time we have taken the high-speed rail home during the peak-travel time. Previously, It takes about 4 hours and a half to get home from Shaoguan to Shenzhen, but now, it only takes about 1 hour. The modern technology provides us with a fantastic travelling experience,” Mr. Luo said.
“My husband and I find it very good taking the high-speed railway home. The seating is comfortable and the cabin is clean.
The environment is great,” Mrs. Luo said.
China’s high-speed railway is proving to be a big help during the Spring Festival. Increasing numbers of people are choosing high-speed railway because it’s fast and convenient. It offers a much more pleasant journey than older trains.
A high-speed rail system has been built to link all of the Pearl River Delta cities together. Authorities say the high-speed rail system in the region can accommodate 100-thousand people per day.
”Since the high-speed rail started operation in Guanzhou South Railway Station, it has greatly reduced the burden of passenger flow. We attract many people to take high-speed rail from buses and flights. For the first 7 days of the spring festival travel peak season, we have delivered more than 60-thousand people. That is about a 16 percent increase than the previous year,” said Liu Hui, staff member from Guangzhou South Railway Station.
China is building a national high-speed passenger rail network. Authorities plan to build more than 16,000 km of high-speed lines by 2020. With high-speed trains′ tickets becoming less costly, it’s entirely possible that many more people will choose this way of traveling in the near future.

专家建议服用抗病毒药物应对禽流感
A leading Chinese respiratory expert has suggested that patients with the H7N9 virus should use the antiviral medication,Tamiflu, as early as possible.
Zhong Nanshan, who is the director of the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases, says latest lab data shows that this year’s H7N9 strain is stronger than usual. He says severe cases, can host great amounts of the virus, which can live in the body for up to 30 days. The long survival duration of the potentially-deadly virus makes it harder to cure H7N9 patients than normal flu infections.
So far, Guangdong has reported 26 cases of the H7N9 virus, including 3 deaths. Zhong says that three patients that his institute is treating now are improving and two of them will be released from hospital within a week.
“Now the best advice we can give is that confirmed patients should use anti-virus medicine as early as possible, and the most commonly used medicine is Tamiflu. We should also pay attention to the H1N1 influenza, because it’s capable of human- to-human transmission. The flu virus can be of different strains, so you should be very careful when a member of your family
develops flu symptoms.” said Dr. Zhong Nanshan, Respiratory Expert, Guangzhou Inst. of Respiratory Diseases.
