Clashes in central Madrid between police and protesters, who are denouncing a bill that will toughen penalties against demonstrations. Opponents say the bill is a crackdown against demonstrations that have rocked Spain since the government began implementnig unpopular austerity measures.

Protesters vented their anger at police, by throwing bottles, and hitting police cars with sticks. Firecrackers were set off,and rubber bullets were fired. At least 18 people were injured. The security bill is seeking to fine unauthorized protests up to 600,000 euros if they turn violent. Protesters who cover their faces could be fined up to 30,000 euros. Those opposing the measure say it violates the right to free expression, which is cherished in a country that suffered decades under a dictatorship.

Tens of thousands of anti-government protesters gather at Kiev's Independence Square. Opposition leaders are demanding President Viktor Yanukovich not sign any documents with Russia during his upcoming visit to Moscow -- fearing it will slamthe door on the country's chances to integrate with mainstream Europe. Bomb blast kills at least four in Kenya

At least four people are dead after police say a suspected grenade attack blew up a minibus in Kenya's capital. The attack shattered glass and split metal from the bus, leaving debris everywhere. Crowds converged on the scene as investigators began picking up the pieces from the bombing. The blast happened in Pangani, a neighborhood near Eastleigh which is home to many Somalis. Kenya Red Cross and ambulances responded to the scene, where they took at least a dozen to the hospital. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

The Hukou waterfall, the largest one on the Yellow River, has become a hot spot for tourists and photographers. They are there for a good reason: the icicles that have formed over the waterfall due to the cold front sweeping the region.
Temperatures have been constantly at below minus ten degrees Celsius in Hukou for over a week. This is the first time people in the region have seen the spectacular icicles form over the waterfall this winter.
Weather forecasters say if the temperatures remain low, folks in Hukou can expect to see water and ice blocks running together in the coming days. The Hukou Waterfall is a famous attraction in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, where the river’s width abruptly narrows to less than 30 meters.

The conference has set up economic tasks for the next year and will look to ensure that issues like national food safety, and industrial restructuring get prominent attention.
Next year, the country will also heavily promote the development of newly emerging industries. When it came to finances, the conference called for the control of local government debt risks and to push forward regional development.
The government will keep working on improving people’s livelihood including creating more jobs for both college graduates and for the unemployed, solving housing problems and protecting the environment.
The conference has urged for deeper reforms and more opening-up, the speeding up of free trade negotiations and steadily pushing talks on investment agreements. The government also hopes to expand maritime transport capacity.
