At least 30 people died when this private bus rammed into an oil tanker in southern India's Andhra Pradesh state and caught fire. The bus, carrying around 44 passengers, was travelling from Bangalore to Hyderabad. When it reached Kothakota flyover it hit a tanker, which erupted into flames. The blaze engulfed the bus before passengers realised what had happened....It was 11pm and most of them had been sleeping. The driver and some other passengers managed to escape. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital. Road accidents in India are common...transport officials attribute a large number of accidents there to poorly maintained roads and vehicles, reckless driving, and overloading.

In New York residents held up flashlights to make a heart-shape marking the one year anniversary of superstorm "Sandy". While in Staten Island, neighbours placed candles in water, as part of a vigil to light up the shore. One year on from the storm and residents in of New Jersey and New York shore communities are still rebuilding damaged homes after record floods.

Top U.S. intelligence chiefs call spying reports "false"

The reports that the U.S. is spying on millions of European citizens are "completely false." That's what N.S.A. Director General Keith Alexander told the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday. Alexander said the reporters in France, Spain and Italy breaking these stories simply do not understand the data collected by the N.S.A.

The Washington Post is reporting that the National Security Agency secretly broke into the main communications links that connect Yahoo and Google data centers around the world.
The Post cites documents obtained from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden and interviews with officials. According to a secret accounting document dated January 9th, 2013, the NSA sends millions of records every day from Yahoo and Google’s internal networks to data warehouses at the agency’s headquarters.
In the last 30 days, field collectors have processed and sent back more than 180 million new records. They include "metadata," which indicates who sent or received emails and when, and content such as text, audio and video.

China may soon become the world's largest movie market, but getting a piece of that ever-growing pie is no easy task, just ask Hollywood. The movie capital of the world seems to be losing ground in China.
According to the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, China’s box office grossed over 16.4 billion yuan in the first nine months of the year. That’s a 35 percent jump from the same period last year. But most of that growth was concentrated in Chinese films.
Domestic ticket sales surged by 94 percent while sales for American movies declined by just over 5 percent. Check out this tally here of the performances by Chinese and foreign movies from January to September this year.
So far, domestic movies account for 6 of the 10 top grossing movies in the Chinese market, making it a promising year for the domestic film industry.
