Mangled metal sits as dozens of investigators try to piece together how a passenger train collided with a double-decker city bus in Ottawa on Wednesday (September 18), killing at least six people. The collision sheared off the front of the bus and caused the engine of the VIA Rail train to derail. One bus passenger recalled the moments before the crash.

Officials say investigators are looking for the event recorder to find out how fast the bus was traveling. Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson says the city's flags are at half-staff to mark the tragic loss of life.

Hope for finding a missing U.S. pilot who crashed in northeastern China is fading. Crews continue to comb the lake where the plane went down on Tuesday.

Russia, Syria denounce U.N. report as fighting rages on

Syria and Russia are on the attack, criticizing the new U.N. report on chemical weapons usage in Syria as preconceived and tainted by politics. In Damascus, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad hosted both a Russian and American delegation to discuss both the report and the recent plan to eliminate his country's stockpiles. The report confirmed the nerve agent sarin was used in the August 21 attack but did not assign blame. Britain, France and the United States say it confirmed Syria's government was behind it and not the rebels as Russia suggests. Meanwhile, fighting continues to plague the country. Video obtained by Reuters shows rebel fighters and government forces clashing in the town of Areeha in the Idlib province. One Free Syrian Army rebel claims they are gaining ground.

The Mid-autumn Festival is a traditional day for family reunions in China. But in rural areas, many children miss out on celebrating with their parents, because they are working far away from home. CCTV’s Jiang Qian visited a school in southwestern China’s Guizhou province, and has this report.
There are about 700 students in this primary school. Over half of them live in dorms, because their parents work in big cities and are not around to take care of them.
Meng Enmin, 12 years old, is one of them. He has to look after his little brother, Meng Enxin, who is only a first grade student in the same school. The day before Mid-autumn festival, Enmin excitedly seeks out his brother after class. They’re about to have a little family reunion.
This video chat is the first time the family has seen each other, since the parents went to Zhejiang over the summer. Enxin proudly shows off his new skills.
"Papa, listen carefully. I can count numbers for you: one, two, three, four, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten!" Meng Enxin, Student of Xuanwei Primary School said.
Enmin tells his parents he scored excellent in a mathematics test. His pleased parents tell them to continue studying hard and take care of each other. The two boys are so shy that they can hardly say happy Mid-autumn Festival to their parents.
"My parents have never left us. This is the first time they went away for work. They say they can come back home only once a year during the Spring Festival." Meng Enxin said.
Students like Enmin and Enxin are lucky. Not all families have the facilities to contact each other this way. But even with computers and phones now more easily at hand, the simple wish of the children remain on the Mid-Autumn Festival, that their parents can be with them everyday.

Mooncakes have a long history in China. Traditional moon cake making has been under threat for some time now. However, in East China’s Anhui Province, some moon cake makers are still sticking to tradition.
For many of the elderly residents of Hefei, there is only one place to go if they want to relive their memories of Mid-Autumn day. And it is here, in this simple booth hidden away in a valley near the city which is Anhui’s provincial capital.
"I don’t like the taste of mooncakes nowadays. They use coconut shreds or bean mash as stuffing. I still like this old flavor." Ms Yin, Resident, said.
However, it is getting harder to find a place like this. The booth owner, 51-year old Zhang Guibao finds it is increasingly difficult to keep his booth running.
"It is exhausting. It takes lot strength to knead dough. My moon cakes are all handmade. Also the oven is hot in summer." Zhang Guibao, Mooncake maker said.
Compared to moon cakes selling for hundreds of yuan in the market, his moon cakes are only three and a half yuan each. The money he earns isn’t even enough to make a living.
His daughter is helping him during the holidays, but she is sure she doesn’t want to follow in his footsteps. She wants to be a doctor.
The traditional way of making moon cakes is unique in its own way. But many of the younger customers don’t like it as much as some of the older people. If this moon cake making tradition is to be kept alive, it will have to adapt to the needs of the changing market.
One moon cake maker who is seeing her business grow because she adapted to changes is Wang Juanjuan. She now has a workshop in Huangshan city of Anhui Province.
"We made modifications according to different needs. The ingredients are better than what we used before and the taste is also better." Wang Juanjuan, Mooncake Maker said.
For Wang Juanjuan, no matter what changes she makes, good taste is something that has to remain. Every process in making her moon cakes is measured and materials are selected very carefully.
"The sesame we use is darker than others because the soil it grows in is different. It has better scent." Wang Juanjuan said.
Wang’s whole family is working in the workshop now.
"My daughter-in-law and my cousins are all working with me. Even my grandson finds it interesting to pat some cakes. I wish my skill can pass down to them." Wang Juanjuan said.
Wang’s son is helping to promote home-made moon cakes online as well.
"I quite like it and inheriting the business from my mother as a career is a good thing." Su Shunan, Wang Juanjuan's son said.
Wang’s workshop has been doing quite well. Profits each year have so far been more than a hundred thousand yuan.
