《麦田的守望者》Catcher in the Rye
Andrew P. Another person who viewed the majority as a poor guide is Holden Caulfield from the novel Catcher in the Rye. Holden is a rebellious young man who is determined to see his own ideals and thoughts carried out. Throughout the novel, he constantly opposes the public opinion of conformity and seeks his own path of individualism. This individualism stems from his endless imagination and unblocked freedom of thought. It is Holden's commitment to follow himself as a guide that allows him to be truly unique, not just another number in the majority. Holden sees how joining the majority strips people of their own ability to think for themselves and function as individuals. If one joins the group, that person loses their freedom as an individual. Thus, Holden beats down the temptations to follow the majority and thinks freely for himself, allowing Holden to make choices that most benefits himself.

点评:我非常喜欢 Andrew 对 Holden Caulfield 的感性和情感的细致研究,如“Holden sees how joining the majority strips people of their own ability to think for themselves and function as individuals”他的分析非常出色。
