TEXT:Angry anti-American protests have swept across the Muslim world this week in response to a film that insults the Prophet Mohammad. An attack on the U.S. consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others this week. In his weekly address U.S. President Barack Obama says there is no excuse for violence. PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES BARACK OBAMA, SAYING: "We stand for religious freedom. And we reject the denigration of any religion - including Islam. Yet there is never any justification for violence. There is no religion that condones the targeting of innocent men and women. There is no excuse for attacks on our Embassies and Consulates. " Obama also repeated a vow to bring the attackers of the U.S. consulate in Libya to justice.

TEXT:Thousands of protesters gather outside the Japanese embassy in Beijing, as tensions flare over a territorial dispute. Riot police were forced to barricade the embassy as demonstrators gathered, angry at Japan for buying islands claimed by both Beijing and Tokyo. Scuffles broke out as protesters hurled rocks and traffic cones at police. Known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, the island chain sits near potentially lucrative oil and gas fields. The purchase of the islets by Japan from a private owner has brought tensions up a notch. Six Chinese surveillance ships on Friday (September 14) briefly entered waters close to the island chain. On Saturday (September 15) protesters also gathered in Shanghai and Japanese media reported small demos in other Chinese cities as well. Japan's foreign minister cut short a visit to Australia to deal with the situation. Diplomats say both Tokyo and Beijing want to keep the row from spiralling out of control.

Scenes like this have prompted a stark warning from international mediator Lakhdar Brahimi that the Syrian crisis is worsening. UN ARAB LEAGUE ENVOY LAKHDAR BRAHIMI, SAYING: "This is an extremely dangerous situation and it is getting worse. It is posing a threat to the Syrian people and the region and even to the whole world." The veteran Algerian diplomat added in English however that he was still hopeful for change, despite the difficulties involved. UN ARAB LEAGUE ENVOY LAKHDAR BRAHIMI , SAYING: "This kind of mission needs to be undertaken. I am not undertaking it because I am looking for a quick success of myself. I have undertaken it because I am very hopeful that I will be able to help - however little - the people of Syria." Brahimi was speaking in Damascus following his first meeting with President Bashar al-Assad since he replaced Kofi Annan as peace enyoy earlier this month. The new mediator said Assad and his officials had pledged to support his work, and said he would return after talks with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Activists say more than 27,000 people have been killed in the 18-month conflict between Assad's forces and rebels.

TEXT:" Peace, freedom, and civilized values have enemies in this world, as we have been reminded by events in Egypt, Libya, and Yemen. We have all seen images of our flag being burned and our enemies under attack by vicious mobs. The worst of it is the loss of four good men, including our ambassador to Libya. They were there for the most peaceful purposes in service to our country. And today our country honors their lives and grieves with their families. All of us are watching events closely, but we know who America is dealing with in these attacks. They are extremists who operate by violence and intimidation. And the least equivocation or mixed signal only makes them bolder. Look across that region today, and what do we see? - The slaughter of brave dissidents in Syria. - Mobs storming American embassies and consulates. - Iran four years closer to gaining a nuclear weapon. - Israel, our best ally in the region, treated with indifference bordering on contempt by the Obama administration. 【Tensions Rising Again Over Iran’s Nuclear Program】
TEXT:The United States is moving significant military firepower to the Persian Gulf and is increasing the number of fighter planes that could strike deep into Iran if the country moves to build a nuclear bomb.
Analysts say the time is fast approaching when Israeli leaders must decide whether to launch strikes against Iran, a move that could explode the already fragile Middle East.
“The clock is certainly ticking faster because the diplomacy clock, unfortunately, is ticking very slowly,” said Patrick Clawson, an expert on Iran at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
The U.S. and 25 nations will hold the largest minesweeping exercise in history later this month in the Gulf where Iran is threating to block the Strait of Hormuz, the corridor for a fifth of the world’s oil.
Tehran is planning to hold its own war games as a clear warning against an attack.
The country’s supreme leader says its nuclear aims are peaceful and that Iran will not build a bomb.
All the while the International Atomic Energy Agency says centrifuges are being added at an underground site as U.N. inspectors are blocked from a military base where weapons-related research may have occurred.
IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano is frustrated. “We need to stop going around in circles discussing process,” Amano said.
Sanctions on Iran’s oil industry are beginning to cripple the economy, and the value of its currency is plummeting.
The Obama administration says this leaves time for more diplomacy.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disagrees.
“Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don't have a moral right to place a red light before Israel,” he said.
The debate over Iran has burst into the combative U.S. presidential campaign.
Challenger Mitt Romney has denounced President Obama’s Iran policy, while the White House is sensitive to criticism involving Israel.
“There is no daylight between the United States and Israel when it comes to what we perceive to be happening in Iran with regards to its program or when it comes to the commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon,” said White House spokesma Jay Carney.
With sanctions on Iran leading to spiraling inflation, Washington is hoping the pressure will force Tehran to compromise.
“In that situation they may be more tempted to go back and look at the nuclear program to ask if maybe that is where we can make our compromises rather than having to take really tough measures on the economic front,” said analyst Patrick Clawson.
Iran is expected to be a major topic of debate when the U.N. General Assembly convenes later this month.

Watching the Olympics probably made some people feel a little guilty about not exercising. The truth is, if physical inactivity were a sport, a lot of us could give a gold-medal performance. Or should we say non-performance?

To mark the London Olympics, the Lancet, a British medical journal, published a series of papers about this problem. Public health experts say physical inactivity is the world's fourth leading cause of death. They estimate that inactivity plays a major part in six to ten percent of deaths from non-communicable diseases. These include conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and colon and breast cancer.
