3. more than+adj.

① more than与数词连用，意思是“多于，大于，超过”。相当于over.例如：

I’ve known him for more than 20 years. 我认识他已经二十多年了。

② more than后面跟名词，意为“不只是，不仅仅是”。

例如：She is more than a teacher to us, she is our friend. 他不只是教师，她还是我们的朋友。

③ more than与形容词和分词连用，表示“非常、十分”。

例如：She is more than beautiful. 她非常漂亮 。

④ more than与动词连用，对动词起着加强语气的作用。

例如：His progress more than encouraged him to work hard. 进步激励他努力学习。

4. desperate adj. 绝望的
