【剧情导读】影片采用倒叙手法，讲述了低智商的阿甘的生活，以及他挚爱的珍妮。影片把美国从50年代到70年代的一些重大事件与阿甘的经历相结合起来，在这些重大事件发生时阿甘都在现场，如与甲壳虫乐队主唱歌手约翰·列侬相会在电台，刺杀肯尼迪总统，受到尼克松总统接见，参加了越南战争，等等。问题在于由于他的智商太低，他意识不到这些人和事的重要性。影片通过阿甘善良、单纯的思想，真诚及天生的直觉行动，与现实社会垮掉的一代形成鲜明对照。
