I have to say that both are important. Family is important because there are close bonds between parents and children, grandparents are parents and their children and between relatives like aunts, uncles and cousins. If there is a problem that you cannot talk about with your parents, a friend will usually lend an ear and listen to you.

Families that are close-knit know each other very well and stand by each other. On the other, being part of a close-knit family can be a problem because some family members may meddle in private affairs or give advice that is not asked for. Much of this depends on the parents in the family.
