2.diffuse v．扩散，（使）四散；传播；散布 adj.弥漫的，四散的;（文章等）冗长的
【记】词根记忆：dif(分开)+fus(流)+e--流向不同方向--扩散
【例】A gas forms no free surface but tends to diffuse throughout the space available.
气体不会形成自由面，但它可以在任何可利用的空间内扩散。(2000)
The professor's speech was very diffuse and I missed the point.
教授的演讲漫无边际，我没有抓住要点。
【辨】diffuse, disperse, dissipate, dispel这四个词都有“分散，散开”的意思。diffuse强调的是扩散和传播，如：diffuse the knowledge; disperse强调的是分散得更广以至于看不见，如：The students dispersed to their homes after school；dissipate指通过蒸发等途径使彻底散开并最终消失，如：The sun dissipated the mist; dispel强调通过驱赶的方式使散开。

3.subdue vt．征服，克服，压制；缓和，减弱
【记】词根记忆：sub(下)+due(=duce，引导)--引到下面--征服
【例】When the boy threw himself on the bed, sleep subdued him, for he was tired out.

4.kidnap vt.诱拐（小孩等）,绑架
【记】联想记忆：kid(小孩)+nap(打盹儿)--趁着大人打盹儿将小孩诱拐走--诱拐
【例】The man was accused of plotting to kidnap the prince.

5.grease n．动物脂；脂肪；润滑脂 vt．涂油脂于;用油脂润滑，使润滑
【例】You should grease your door's lock, since it doesn't work well.
你该给你的门锁抹些润滑油，它不好用了。
【用】固定搭配grease (one's) palm/hand是“向（某人）行贿”的意思，与bribe一样。

6.bestow vt.把…赠与，把…给予
【例】All my confidence is bestowed on him.
我对他完全有信心。
【用】bestow是正式用语。

7.impulse n.推动（力），驱使；冲动，心血来潮
【记】词根记忆：im(使)+puls(推)+e--推动；冲动
【例】The consumption can give an impulse to production.
消费可以推动生产。
【派】impulsive( adj.易冲动的，由冲动造成的，感情用事的)

8.accident n．意外事件
【记】词根记忆：ac(表加强)+cid（摔倒）+ent（名词后缀）--不小摔倒--意外事件
【例】by accident I met my for classmate in the mall by accident
我在商场里偶然遇见了以前的同学。
Without accident Blake came back without accident.
布莱克平安无事地回来了。
