Lesson 06 Dialogue Creating a Positive Working Environment
Nick: We all know that a happy work environment results in harder workers. So, how can we create a trusted, productive, and positive work environment? Sarah, what's your take on this?
Sarah: Well, the most important thing is to treat coworkers with the same respect you want to receive from them.
Nick: Can you go more in depth about it? What are the best ways to demonstrate respect at work?
Sarah: Well, for instance, we can listen to what others have to say before expressing our viewpoints. We should never talk over, butt in, or cut off another person.
Greg: Right! Also, we shouldn't nitpick. People don't like being criticized over little things.
Nick: Those are good points. Anything else?
Greg: We can try making each and every cubicle a more welcoming place to work.
Sarah: I totally agree with you. That way, it will seem less institutional when people swing by to visit from time to time.
Nick: Yes. We work from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. or later every day, which means we practically live here.
Sarah: Why don't we mandate a clean desk policy? Each and every employee should clear and secure all paperwork and items by the end of the day.
Greg: Oh, that sounds good. Then when you arrive in the morning, the tone is set for a peaceful day, right? That will work for me!
