今天要说的Buzzword 大家肯定都不陌生，而且耳熟能详，它就是: New Media-新媒体。
这是一个新媒体时代，更是一个人人都需要掌握点新媒体技能的时代。说起来，咱们的英文小酒馆也是新媒体领域的一员呢，而且，酒馆正在招募新成员哦，不怕长本事的来！（结尾有联系方式哦）
话说回来，那么，到底什么是新媒体呢？
In contrast to “old” media, which includes printed media like newspapers, magazines, books, television and other such non-interactive media.
以“纸张”为载体的，如报纸、杂志；又或者不能参与互动的，比如传统电视，都可被称作是“老媒体”或者“传统媒体”。
而新媒体则可以被理解为数字媒体。
New Media
New media is a catch-all term used for various kinds of electronic communications that are conceivable due to innovation in computer technology.
从上述这个意义来讲，New media includes (but is not restricted to):
Social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Weibo etc.
The streaming sites or media，流媒体，which allows the streaming of video and audio files, including both commercial film and music, as well as user-generated media content.(比如优酷、B站、爱奇艺、这些流媒体上既有正式商务出版的影视音乐也有“用户生成内容”UGC)
Digital/satellite, smart TV. 数字和智能电视
Computer games and online games, mobil games. 各种网游、手游
Apps for mobile telephones and tablets. 智能设备上的应用程序等
到底什么是新媒体？
新媒体最大的特点可谓是和用户之间的互动性了。
N年前，我们和传统媒体打交道都是被动式接收信息；现在，用户和新媒体互动并主动产出内容已是常态。
New media is considered to be the multimedia and digital form of communication happening via desktop and laptop computers, as well as phones, tablets and other devices.
It has introduced user interaction, rather than simply consuming media.
新媒体还可以根据用户偏好定制内容，并在不同形式的内容中创建链接。
New media can be customized to the users’ preferences, and it can selectively link from one form of content to another.
“新”“老”媒体难界定
It is not very easy to draw the line between new and old media because the so-called old media has found new ways of representation in digital forms, leaving behind its conventional methods of representation.
报刊、杂志之类虽然属于“传统媒体”，但很多纸媒也与时俱进，转到了线上，并且出了线上版本。
再加上现在的网络技术、媒体技术更新换代之快，今天“弄潮儿”的媒体形式明天可能就会被淘汰成“昨日黄花”。
And even with New Media, where and how people consume their news and entertainment continues to evolve, so what’s ‘new’ now could very well be ‘old’ in a year.
所以还有人提出了“新新媒体”the New New Media的概念。
在中国，最近几年还有一个很火的概念叫做 We Media, 自媒体。
值得注意的是，这个词还没有完全沉淀下来，所以和 English Speakers交流的时候说到We Media最好能附带一个解释，以免对方一头雾水哦。
新媒体的特点是？
Convergence 聚合
衣食住行四件大事儿统统都可以靠一台手机搞定：上橙色软件买衣服，上蓝色软件点外卖，上“海豚”软件定酒店，上“马蜂”软件查行程。
还有读书的、看电影的、八卦的、社交的...就算是没有下载这些APP，只要你还用微信，就可以通过小程序来进行上述步骤。
而聚合这所有功能的智能设备-手机/平板，真可以称为是现代人的“新器官”。
It is increasingly the case that one device can be used to access a wide variety of media.
For example, a mobile phone can be used for watching films and videos, listening to music, accessing social media, reading books, reading newspapers, accessing websites, etc.
Interactivity 互动
“新媒体”和“旧媒体”最大的区别之一就是“即时”互动性。
现在我们看到一篇好的推文，一个好的节目，可以立刻留言，马上弹幕，慷慨打赏；有独到见解的还能留言置顶，被其他粉丝/读者点赞...
搁在读报的年代，想给小编加个鸡腿还得“颠儿颠儿”地寄封挂号信，应援打call也不如今天这般高效。
New media formats often facilitate more interaction than old media. The audience is able to engage.
Audience/user power 用户力量
互动性也给了观众更多的话语权，有了更多表达自己看法的机会，比如给作品打分、留言的机制。
甚至，很多编剧会根据观众留言来决定故事的走向和大结局。
Interactivity also gives more power to the audience.
The audience can use streaming and catch-up services to watch the television programmers they want to watch when they want to watch them (for example) but they are also able to influence media content through their interaction, or even create and share the content themselves.
Accessibility 可自由触达
我们作为信息的接收者，每天都在收到新闻热点、娱乐八卦、科技知识...各色各样的推送。
一台手机或者平板电脑一根网线，便可知晓全世界各个角落发生的事情，车马悠悠，靠书信送达的“闭塞”年代早就被滚滚向前的历史车轮抛在了身后。
Increasingly, new media is free media. Once people have the devices and the broadband internet access, they are able to get instant access to a vast array of media content, much of which is also free.
