The polls have closed. And Crimeans are celebrating the initial vote counts, overwhelmingly favoring a union with Russia. The Russian RIA news agency reported more than 95 percent of the votes went to joining Russia. Dismay in Ukraine's capital Kiev.

Gunmen kill 6 army officers near Cairo

Crowds gather at a military checkpoint near Cairo where six army officers are dead. State media reports that unidentified gunmen carried out the attack, which is the second on Egyptian security forces in three days. A senior security official also told state TV that two bombs found nearby had been defused. The army is blaming the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood movement,whose leaders have denied any involvement in the attack. An Islamist insurgency targeting security forces has rocked Egypt since the military overthrew former President Mohamed Mursi last year.

Teenage boys shot in the legs in NY

Police on the scene in Brooklyn --- after four boys were shot in the legs. Three of the boys are teenagers and one is 12.

The boys have been taken to local hospital and are reportedly in serious condition. Authorities have not released any other details about the shooting which took place in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.

China’s amended law on consumer rights takes effect on Saturday, World Consumer Rights Day. The new version strengthens regulations on the e-commerce industry.
It allows consumers the right to return goods they bought via the Internet, television, telephone or mail orders within sevendays from the date of receipt. It also specifies that delivery fees for returning the product shall be borne by the consumer,who should be paid back within a week after the seller receives the returned goods.
This is known as the "seven-day unconditional return." The new amendment also rules that advertising agents and e-trade platforms should bear joint liability if products are proven harmful to consumers.
Organizations and individuals that endorse those goods and services will share responsibility as well, that means celebrities could be found liable for false advertising.

For those who want to stay at Lido Hotel and wait for updates, the airline will provide accommodation and coordination. It will also help get multi-entry visas and flight tickets for those who want to go to Malaysia. And for those who want to return home, Malaysia Airlines will bear transportation costs and provide continuous coordination.
But for most of the relatives, Lido hotel where they could get first hand officially verified information, is the only place they want to be right now. From today on, the airline will hold a daily briefing at 6pm for the relatives at the hotel.
