人力资源和社会保障部有关负责人表示，的确在对"延迟退休年龄"展开研究以为国家提出相关建议，但进行政策研究不代表现行退休年龄规定即将更改。事实上，早在2005年，当时的劳动和社会保障部就进行过此类研究。
当前法定的退休年龄是男职工年满60周岁，女干部年满55周岁，女工人年满50周岁。从事井下、高空、高温、繁重体力劳动和其他有害健康工种并在这类岗位工作达到规定年限的职工，男性年满55周岁、女性年满45周岁退休。近期仍按此标准执行。
