Bald made a comeback years ago. Some men even shaving their heads before hair departed on its own, but many others say they would give anything to regrow their loss.
数年前，秃头死灰复燃。一些男子干脆在头发脱落之前剃光头发，但是其他人则表示，他们会不惜一切代价让脱发重生。
Now doctors say a big breakthrough could make that possible.

"This is definitely a step closer to finding a new way of treating hair loss."

While studying the cells of men undergoing hair transplants, Dr. George Costarelis says he and his team made a surprising discovery.

"Which is that if the scalp that’s bald still has the same number of stem cells as the scalp that’s not bald."

The problem is, even though the stem cells exist they are not producing a different kind of cell called a progenitor cell.

"These are the ones that are the work horse cells. They are constantly making the hair."

Doctor Costarelis says he is hopeful researchers will find a way to turn the inactive stem cells back on.

"We know the stem cells are present. They’re not gone. If they gone it would be more difficult to design a treatment, the current treatments are very good at maintaining the hair that you have. This one would be geared towards actually reversing hair loss. So even if you’re bald, theoretically this would be able to activate the stem cells and get new hair to grow in."

Doctors don’t know if baldness in women works the same way.

"Many of my patients are women, most of them actually are women. And I will really like to be able to help them more than what I can currently. so in the future I wanna figure out whether this same principles apply to female pattern hair loss."

Chinese president attends BRICS summit in Russia's Ufa

Xi Jinping is in Ufa in south-western Russia to attend the seventh leaders' meeting of the BRICS nations. Xi Jinping is joined by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Jacob Zuma at the summit.
The two day summit began in Wednesday. Enhancing cooperation among BRICS countries and on international and regional issues of common concern are on the agenda. Any consensus arrived at the summit will be included in the Ufa Declaration to be issued afterwards.
BRICS leaders are also to hold dialogues with leaders from member states and observer states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Eurasia Economic Union. They will be joined by heads of international agencies and representatives of the BRICS Business Council. According to Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping, the BRICS leaders will draft a blueprint for economic and trade cooperation of the bloc by passing a "BRICS Economic Partnership Strategy."

Pension reform has always been one of the major sticking points between Greece and its creditors. Some pensions have already been cut by as much as 48 percent in the last five years. The Greek government says close to half of Greek pensioners receive monthly payments below the poverty line.
Niki worked in kitchen restaurants all her life. A widow with five children, she had a good retirement until the crisis began. At 64, she lost all her pension benefits and now cares for one of her daughters and her grandchildren.
"Living on 600 euros a month It's not even enough to pay your bills. Or to help your children. My daughter is without a job for two years," Niki said.
Giannis worked for almost four decades as a public bus driver. His pension is an exception - over 1,000 euros but with a monthly mortgage to pay, that leaves him with 700 euros to live on.
"It's a big mistake taking money away from pensioners, they cut 700 euros from my pension. I turned in my car plates, and I had a small car, because I couldn't afford it," Giannis said.
Three out of four pensioners get less than 1,000 euros per month. The average, Greek pension is close to 840 euros. Greece's lenders insist that pensions in the country remain too high compared to the rest of Europe.
Few people here believe that further pension cuts will achieve anything. Moreover, they may also be illegal as Greece's highest court has already ruled that private sector pension cuts in 2012 were unlawful.
According to government data, Greece spends 16 percent of its output on pension funds. Many agree that the pension system needs to be reformed. According to experts, further cuts would be the final blow to pensioners, a possibility back-firing before even being considered.
"In the last few days, we see a big wave of pension applications in an effort from Greeks to protect themselves from new, painful changes in pension funds. This acts against the system because pension expenditure swells. Many people coming to our office, tell us that we don't want to retire but we are afraid that we'll be trapped by any new changes and we leave our jobs sooner than we would have wanted," Dimitris Bourlos, attorney specializing in Pension Fund Legislation said.
Greece has said it wants to curb early retirement benefits and raise retirement age from 61 to 67 years old. But in the country with the highest unemployment in Europe and a rapidly ageing population, it will take a lot more to make the pension system more effective.
