In factual one in eight women will get breast cancer. And motive. These are just some of the many cancer campaigns. Increasing awareness of the disease is helping at a time when the number of those diagnosed is at its highest ever. Last July, 15-year-old Edward Scott sought urgent advice after he realized something was wrong.

Accessible information, advanced technology and scientific research means cancer is being detected earlier. And those it flecks are living longer. In the 1970s, 23% of patients survived for 10 years. By 2007, that figure doubled. At the latest, it suggests that more than 330,000 people were diagnosed with same form of the disease in 2011. That's an increase of almost 50,000 over a decade.

Death toll rises to 35 after bus plunges into NW China valley

Authorities in north-west China's Shaanxi province say the death toll from a road accident has gone up to 35. A bus with 46 on board plunged 30 meters into a ravine in Chunhua county, in the province.
Twenty five people were killed at the site of the accident, with the others succumbing to their injuries in hospitals. Five people remain in critical condition among 11 passengers receiving treatment in hospitals.
The bus belonged to the Xiangban trading company in Xi'an, the provincial capital. Preliminary investigation shows the bus veered off the road at a turn, after the driver lost control.
A relative of a victim said the bus driver told passengers moments before the accident, that the bus brakes had stopped working.

Chinese embassy in Burundi raises safety alert

The Chinese embassy in Burundi has initiated a contingency plan to ensure the safety of hundreds of Chinese nationals. China's ambassador to Burundi Zhou Ruisheng says they have established an information release system, and warned people to stay on alert.
"The embassy has close contact with local government, military and police departments. We have asked local government to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals. Since the coup occurred on the 13th April, the embassy has initiated a contingency plan, issuing a safety alert via the embassy website as well as sending group messages, to warn Chinese nationals to stay on alert, and suggest they stay in doors," Zhou said.
The Chinese embassy in Burundi has also set up an emergency team to receive phone calls around the clock. It maintains close contact with Chinese nationals in the country, including those at Chinese companies, and the Confucius Institute.
Embassy records show that there are over 450 Chinese people working and living in the country, and so far there is no reports saying any Chinese nationals have been hurt. However, the embassy has warned there are still potential risks following the unrest in the country, and has reminded people to take precautional measures taken to ensure safety.
