Thousands march through the streets of Madrid. They are protesting against austerity, high unemployment and political corruption, after more than four years of government cutbacks. Many feel these measures have done little to help those at the bottom of society.

This is shameful."

Officer Darren Wilson who shot and killed unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, has handed in his letter of resignation, his attorney said on Saturday. The resignation was "effective immediately." Violent protests erupted in the city of Ferguson, Missouri where the 18-year-old Brown was shot and killed this summer. More riots broke out after a grand jury decided not to indict officer Wilson earlier this week. Mr. Wilson said in a statement that while he would have liked to continue working as a police officer, his decision to step down was for the safety of the community and of the police force.

Firemen in southeastern France search for the missing after flash floods. At least four people are dead and several others unaccounted for after violent rain storms and floods pounded France's Mediterranean coast.

Our Snow Queen is more cold and maybe even evil, so all this story of Kai and Gerda, told within two hours will make a child think. The 74-year old former Brazil player was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, which released a statement Monday night declaring that the football icon remains in a stable condition, and gave no further details. Widely regarded as the finest player to play the game, he had an operation to remove kidney stones earlier this month.
Pele was named "Football Player of the Century" by world soccer body FIFA, "Athlete of the Century" by the International Olympic Committee,and a "national treasure" by Brazil's government.
