Soldiers search for weapons in the ravaged capital of the Central African Republic. French troops are trying to secure Bangui....and end the violence that has seen about one million people flee their homes. Despite their efforts, residents are still packing up and leaving. But French army chief of staff, Edouard Guillaud, says the security situation has improved.

Despite the peacekeepers, the country is being torn apart by intercommunal violence since mainly Muslim rebels seized power in March. At least 2,000 people are believed to have died since fighters withdrew from the capital last month. And looting,lynching, and outbreaks of violence between Muslims and Christians continue in the north and west of the country.

Families survey the damage after two deadly car bomb blasts in Baghdad. They went off in quick succession late Monday night in this mostly Shi'ite district in the south of the Iraqi capital. At least four people were killed and 25 others wounded.One resident says the blasts came just after sunset prayers and damaged his home.

The violence is becoming all too routine. A day before, at least 14 people were killed in separate car bombs -- also in mostly Shi'ite Muslim areas of Baghdad province. The U.N. says last year was the bloodiest in Iraq since 2008. And already this year, over a thousand people were killed in January alone.

Michael David Elliot is back behind bars just a day after he broke out of a Michigan prison. He'd been plotting his escape,stealing a cafeteria worker's uniform. It isn't clear why the prison electric fence or motion sensors failed to stop him. But, now free -- he stole a car and took the female driver hostage. She later escaped and called police as he was pumping gas. He was captured by Indiana police Monday evening.

After one of the warmest Chinese New Years on record, Shanghai is facing a cold front. It’s cold and wet. But that hasn’t deterred thousands of tourists and local residents from being outside and enjoying what the city has to offer.
Shanghai experienced the big chill on Monday with temperatures dropping by 8 degrees Celsius over the weekend, to a low of 5 degrees and a high of 9. But the Bund, one of the city’s landmarks, was still packed with tourists.
"I come from the northeastern part of China and so I feel the weather in Shanghai is very warm. And the rain makes this trip more romantic." a tourist said.
"The weather affected us. I may cancel my plan to climb the Oriental Pearl tower and do something else." a tourist said.
The famous Pedestrian Street on Nanjing Road also saw huge crowds. Shops are busy doing brisk business with people queuing to buy special food and gifts for the Chinese New Year.
"The cold weather won’t stop me from visiting friends or going out. As long as I dress well and keep warm." a local resident said.
Temperatures will fall further, with the low early Tuesday and Wednesday set to be around 3 to 4 degrees Celsius.
Shanghai just experienced one of the warmest Chinese New Year this year. Although the temperature dropped dramatically today,the weather won’t stop people from having fun in the holiday.

The details of the final will and testament of Nelson Mandela have been made public. A 40-page summary of the late former South African president's will was released at the Nelson Mandela Center of Memory in Johannesburg. It states that his estate is worth an estimated 4 million US dollars, excluding the assets in three Mandela Trusts.
Addressing a media conference, in Johannesburg, the executors of the late 95 year-old former president’, said he had drawn up his final will and testament 10 years ago in October 2004.
Beneficiaries of his estate include his wife Graca Machel, his children, grandchildren and great-grand children, as well as several members of his staff.
Dikgang Moseneke, Executor Justice, said, "A close reading of the will, will still have to be done by the deceased Former President Nelson Mandela."
Madiba left 50,000 rands each to some of his loyal workers, such as his executive secretary, his personal assistant and his personal chef.
He also left amounts of 100,000 rands each to several educational institutions, which he had attended, including the schools and universities which he had studied at as a boy and a young man.
Thoko Mavuso, Mandela's former personal assistant, said, "I feel overwhelmed and humbled. I didn’t think we meant so much to him. So I’m humbled."
Xoliswa Ndoyiya, Mandela’s former chef, said, "For the will, I don’t want to lie to you. It just came as a shock to me."
Prof. Adam Habib, Vice Chancellor of Wits University, said, "We are particularly touched by this gesture and this would be a great gesture to Madiba’s legacy."
The executors said no one had so far contested Nelson Mandela's will. They said his widow, Graca Machel, was entitled to 50-per cent of the estate, because the couple had been married in community of property.
According to South African law, she still had two months, to decide if she wishes to claim exactly half of the estate or waive her right to do so.
