An Egyptian court has ordered former President Hosni Mubarak's release from jail, his lawyer said. The court met here at Tora prison, where Mubarak is being held, to review a legal petition demanding his freedom, said judicial sources. This means the 85 year old could leave prison on Thursday, as there are no longer any legal grounds for his detention. After 30 years as Egyptian president, Mubarak was arrested soon after his overthrow in February 2011. He became the first leader in the so-called Arab Spring to face trial. Charges ranged from corruption to complicity in the murder of protesters. Mubarak is being retried on charges of ordering the killing of demonstrators during the uprising that led to his downfall. However, he has already served the maximum amount of pretrial detention permitted. Egypt's prosecutor said he will not appeal the release order.

Sentenced to 35 years in prison for the biggest breach of secret data in U.S. history, soldier Bradley Manning spoke through his defense attorney in a statement to reporters, indicating he intends to ask President Barack Obama for a pardon.

A pardon request from Manning would be treated the same as all others, White House spokesman Josh Earnest says.

On Wednesday, the U.N. announced that the departure of the investigative team is "now imminent."

The first land auction under new rules set by the Beijing municipal government for self-use residential housing started on Wednesday. There are specific rules on the types of homes and prices built on this land.
The land lot which has come under the hammer is located in Beijing’s Chaoyang district. According to the new rules put forward by the municipality, more than 20 percent of the total building area will be turned into public rental houses, while the rest will be earmarked as commercial residential properties.
However, whatever price the land will be tagged, developers will only be able to sell the properties for 22 thousand yuan per square meter, which is roughly 20 percent lower than the area’s average. In addition, the size of each apartment should be within 90 square meters.
"It’s good news for residents. The lower housing price can make the property at least 10 percent cheaper compared to neighbouring areas. And it can save home buyers a lot of money." Yang Jinming, Deputy Director of China Land Science Society said.
Experts say such regulations of the house types and prices can help calm the property market.
"The current housing prices are still very high. In this situation, the measure of limiting house prices during the land bidding process is important for the control of the real estate market." Yang Jinming said.
Beijing officials say this policy will ensure housing for the lower-income segment of the population, support housing for the middle class, and free up the market for the higher end.

He said, "We have taken note that the New Zealand government has taken cautious measures against the contaminated milk products. We hope they can continue to deal with issues responsibly, and prevent these kinds of incidents from happening again. The rights of Chinese consumers should be considered."
New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Murray is paying an official visit in China. He’s expected to update authorities on his government’s response to recent meat and dairy issues. Earlier this month, New Zealand’s biggest dairy exporter, Fonterra, was found to be exporting products contaminated with a botulism-causing bacteria.
Imports of Lactoferrin powder, a multifunctional protein produced by New Zealand’s second largest dairy company Westland Milk, and other dairy products have been temporarily banned by China.
