XIAMEN - A suspect has been identified in the case of Friday's fatal bus fire that has claimed 47 lives and hospitalized 34 in the eastern Chinese city of Xiamen, local police said Saturday via their official microblog.
厦门消息，周五，中国东部城市厦门发生致命的公交车火灾事故，造成47人死亡，另有34人因伤住院。周六，当地警方通过官方微博发布消息，该案已锁定嫌疑人。

厦门市一辆快速公交（BRT，bus rapid transit）于周五下午6点20分起火，开始调查人员怀疑公交车起火原因（the cause of the blaze）是技术故障（technical failure），可是在事故发生前公交车的轮胎（tire）和油箱（oil tank）均未受损，公安机关现场勘察发现，助燃剂（combustion improver）为汽油（gasoline），而该公交使用的是柴油发动机（diesel engine）。周六上午，当地政府召开新闻发布会表示，初步调查（initial investigation）显示，公交车火灾是一起严重刑事案件（serious criminal case）。为了保证高考（national college entrance exams）顺利进行，今天厦门快速公交将正常运行。
据了解，事发公交车上有两名高考学生（exam candidates），并且在174医院治疗（receive treatment）。
厦门的BRT是国内第一个一次成网的快速公交系统，于2008年9月正式开通运营（operational），快速公交是厦门市公交的主力军（an important means of transportation），人流量大，尤其是上下班高峰时，都是人满为患（packed with commuters）。
