Lesson 12 Key Conversation Negi's Mother
Narita: Thank you for meeting with me on such short notice, teacher.
Jane: Please, call me Jane. We don't need to use formalities here. You're Negi's mother, right?
Narita: Yes. I'd like to know how the classes are going at the new school where you're teaching.
Jane: Things are great, but I don't thing I could ever get used to this new six day schedule that they tell me I have to work.
Narita: Of course. They need the extra time to study so that they could get a good score on their exams. If they do that, then they could get into a good university, and then get a good job. Our parents here care a lot about their children's future, you know.
Jane: I guess so. I guess in America, we don't think too much about putting our children through all of their after-school academies. We just want them to have time enjoying being kids.
Narita: But don't you worry if they will get a good job?
Jane: Of course we think about their future, but we think they should have the freedom to make it on their own, you know?
Narita: Yes. Negi keeps telling me about how much he enjoys your classes, but I rarely see him doing any homework, so I'm concerned about him. In fact, I was hoping that you could tell me how I could help him to become a better student.
Jane: I thought you wanted to know. Here, I'll show you how he's doing.
