The Odds, One in a Million
Lesson 4 Key Conversation The Odds, One in a Million
Nelson: How's he doing, Doctor Gladstone?
Doctor: Well, to be completely honest, it's hard to believe he's still alive. From the reports I received about the accident, he's lucky to have survived.
Nelson: But is he going to be all right?
Doctor: Well, we're not in the clear yet. The odds are still stacked against him, and there might be some permanent damage if he does make it, but we'll do everything we can.
Nelson: So, what I hear you saying is you might not be able to save my son?
Doctor: Well, I'm no miracle worker, Mr. Nelson, but if I know your son, he's a fighter. I bet he'll pull through, even if the odds are one in a million.
Nelson: Thanks, Doc. It means a lot to hear you say that. Well, I guess it can't be helped. All we can do now is wait, right?
Doctor: Exactly. And pray for his recovery.
Nelson: Pray? I never knew you were so religious, Doctor.
Doctor: I wouldn't believe in it either, had I not seen it work with my own eyes. Besides, it couldn't hurt to have all the help you can get, right?
