是寻找梦中丢失的羊群？
是追求峡谷外面
那朵绯红的云？
我的倔强的祖先呵，
你用淌血的手凿出这条小道
——万张绝壁的腰上
一条缥缈的细神。
哎，夔门内有的是沃土，
缀满白花的野蔷薇枝条，
勾住了你的衣襟；
山泉低吟：
停下吧，停下吧，
不要前行……

呵，大自然撒出的种子
哪一块土地不能生根？
你却让一个深蓝色的希望
沿着这艰险的道路爬行，
——是对陌生世界
朦朦胧胧的憧憬呵，
不是为了生存。

The Ancient Passageway
Xu Hui

Was it to find lost sheep in a dream
Or to seek that crimson cloud
Beyond the ravine
Where my indomitable forefathers
Chiseled out this passage with their bloody hands—
Half way up the steep cliff of a thousand feet
A slender rope afloat in mid-air?
Ah, within the Kui Gate the soil is rich.
Wild roses blooming white on the boughs
Tug at your sleeves,
The hill stream whispers:
O stop, please stop,
Don't go forward…

Seeds scattered by nature
Take root on every piece of soil,
But you have le a deep blue hope
Make its steep climb along this perilous passage,
—to the strange world
Ah, these vague longings are
Not merely for surviving.
