1.desire n./vt.意欲，渴望;要求，请求

【例】I desired to escape from this rruserable life.

【用】desire表示主观上强烈的渴望，at one's desire表示“应某人的要求”。

2.dissolve v.（使）溶解，（使）液化;解散；中止；（使）衰弱，减退；解决，澄清

【记】词根记忆：dis+solv(松开)+e一松开分散--（使）溶解

4.assist v.援助，帮助

【辨】assist, aid
assist强调的是“辅佐，辅助”，表示作为助手来提供帮助或援助；aid暗指被助的一方是弱的，而援助的一方是强有力的。

5.uphold vt.举起：支持

【记】联想记忆：up(向上)+hold(举起)--举起来--支持
【例】The mayor of Amsterdam writes tohis counterparts in eight European capitals，urging them touphold gay rights.
阿姆斯特丹市长给欧洲八国首都市长写信呼吁他们支持同性恋者的权利。
【辨】support, back, uphold
三个词都含有“支持”的意思。support含义广泛，既可表金钱上的支持，也可表精神上、道义上的支持；back尤指财务上的支持或下赌注于…；uphold -般是进行道义上或精神上的鼓舞。

6.deport vt.驱逐（出境）

【记】词根记忆：de(离开)+port(拿，运)--运走一驱逐
【例】I suppose you've received information, by bush-telegraph, that the ex-sailorman is going to deport me as an undesirable immigrant.

7.excite vt.刺激，使兴奋，使激动；激发，唤起，引起

【例】The need to leama new language and customs may excite one person and frighten another.

【用】短语get，become excited后可以接at, by，about，with，over,均表示“因…而激动、兴奋”。
【派】excitable（adj.易激动的，易兴奋的，能被激动的）；excited（adj.激动的，兴奋的）；excitement(n．刺激，兴奋，激动)；exciting（adj.令人兴奋的，使人激动的，刺激的）

8.tug v.用力拖，使劲拉几猛拉，拖;拖船

【例】The fisherman tugged the boat out of the water.
渔民把船拖到了岸上。
A rescue tug is to wing a cargo ship which narrowly missed two North Sea gas platforms in a fierce storm.
一艘货轮在猛烈的暴风雨中险些与两座北海天然气开采平台相撞，一艘救助拖船正将其拖走。
