Hello. I'm John Russell.
In previous videos, I talked about the /倒e/ and /半圆o/ vowel sounds.(注:此音标写法为方便编辑,正确写法见视频)
It's important to know the difference between these two.
Mixing them can change a word's meaning: done, dawn, but, bought.
In the previous videos, I described /倒e/ as the sound of fun, and /半圆o/ as the sound of laws.
Let's talk about that more.
For the /倒e/ sound, your lips and tongue are relaxed as if they are having fun. fun, fun.
With the /半圆o/ sound, your lips have a slight oval shape, and your tongue is slightly tense.
The biggest difference is in the tongue position.
For /倒e/, it is in the middle of your mouth.
For /半圆o/, it is in the back of your mouth.
I'll give you some more examples.
cut, caught, sung, song, hunt, haunt, but, bought
cut/倒e/、caught/半圆o/、sung/倒e/、song/半圆o/、hunt/倒e/、haunt/半圆o/、but/倒e/、bought/半圆o/
But that's all for today.
Keep up the good work.
