It is recorded that the origin of spring couplets can be dated back to 1000 years ago.
据记载，春联的起源可以追溯到1000多年前。
An ancient superstitions tells that peach wood contains the spirit of the five fairy wood,
人们相信一个古老的迷信，那就是桃木中蕴含着五仙木之灵，
which has a bitter smell and can suppress evil spirits and all ghosts.
会散发出苦味，可以压制邪灵和鬼魂。
So, every new year, people hand Tao Fu, charms written on peach wood, on doors to keep all the family safe.
因此，在每年春节期间，人们都要把桃符，一种写在桃木上的符咒，挂到门上，以保证全家平安。
Legend also has it that there was a huge peach tree stretching for more than 1500 kilometers on the mountain in the ghost world.

To the northeast of the tree, two guards named Shen Tu and Yu Lei, guarded the entrance to the ghost world.

Later, the peach wood was replaced by red paper, which symbolizes good luck and happiness.
后来，桃木被象征好运和幸福的红纸所取代。
Since then, pasting spring couplets has been accustomed to welcome the new year and express best wishes.
从那以后，贴春联就成了人们迎接新年和表达美好祝愿的一项习俗了。
This custom continues to this day. And it's a very important Spring Festival activity.
