Hey, guys. I'm Alex. Thanks for clicking. Welcome to this lesson on animal vocabulary.
大家好,我是Alex,欢迎点击收看这期有关动物词汇的课程。
Today, we're going to focus on cats and dogs.
今天我们来讲一下猫猫狗狗的英语词汇。
However, some of this vocabulary, lots of this vocabulary actually, can also be applied to other animals.
其中大部分词汇我们都可以用到其他动物身上。
I'm going to teach you some nouns, there will be some pictures, and we're also going to look at some common verbs that we associate with these animals.
我会教给你们一些名词,也会有一些图片,我们也来看看与这些动物都有关的动词。
For all you pet lovers out there, you want to learn how to talk about dogs and cats, their actions, and their features, this lesson is for you.
对于那些喜欢宠物的人来说,你们会学到怎么来说猫猫狗狗,怎么讲他们的行为、特点,这节课很适合你们。
Those of you who don't have pets, this lesson is still useful because everybody has seen a cat, everyone has seen a dog, I think.
对于那些没养宠物的人来说,这堂课也会很有用,因为大家都见过猫和狗,至少我是这么觉得。
If you haven't, you're going to see lots of them in this video.First, let's look at the nouns.
如果你真的没见过,那在这个视频里你会看到不少。首先,我们来看看名词。
Here we have "tail", and we're going to focus on the pronunciation, as well. This is "tail"; cats and dogs have tails.
首先我们有"tail",我们也会注重发音。这是"tail",猫和狗都有尾巴。
Basically, it's the back of the animal that can move around, as you can see right here.
实际上,它就是在动物后面那根可以跟着动的东西,就像你能在这里看到的一样。
Next we have "fur".Fur is basically the hair on an animal.
接下来,我们有"fur"。"Fur"就是动物的毛发。
The hair on a dog, the hair on a cat, or the hair on almost any animal is called fur, F-U-R, fur.Next up, we have "paws".
猫和狗身上的毛发,几乎所有的动物身上的毛发,都叫fur,F-U-R。接下来,"paws"。
The pronunciation is the same like "pause" in a video game for example.
这个单词的发音跟电脑游戏里面"pause"的发音相同。
The word "paws" means the feet of a cat or a dog, so the bottoms of the feet are the "paws" of the animal.
"Paws"的意思是猫或者狗的脚,脚底的地方,就叫做"paws"。
"Spots": we have many dogs which have "spots" on them.Think of the film "101 Dalmatians".
"Spots",有许多狗身上有"spots"。想一下电影《101只斑点狗》。
A Dalmatian has lots and lots of spots on them. They're little black areas on the animal.
斑点狗身上就有很多斑点。就是动物身上那些小小的黑色部分。
"Whiskers" -- this is related to cats.It can also be related to tigers, for example.
"Whiskers"——这个跟猫有关系。也可以与老虎有关。
Whiskers are the things that come from the cat's nose, these are "whiskers".
"Whiskers"说的是从猫的鼻子那里长出来的东西,胡须。
"Whiskers" -- I should say the hairs, strands, or something like that.
"Whiskers"——就像毛发一类的东西。
Next we have "stripes".Tigers have stripes; some cats have stripes, as well.
下一个,"stripes"。老虎有stripes,有一些猫也有stripes。
They're lines on the body, as you can see here. Finally we have "claws".
就是动物身上的条纹,你在这里可以看得到。最后一个,"claws"。
Claws are the nails of a cat, for example."Claws" -- a cat can have sharp claws.
"Claws"是猫或者其他什么的指甲。"Claws"——猫的爪子可以很尖。
That can be a tongue-twister: "A cat can have sharp claws."
这个可以变成一句顺口溜:"A cat can have sharp claws."
"Claws" are the nails of the cat.Next, let's look at some verbs.
"Claws"是猫的指甲。接下来,来看一下动词。
These verbs are also associated with, again, cats and dogs.We have "wag". Once more, "wag".
这些动词都跟这些猫猫狗狗有关。第一个,"wag"。
When you think of a dog, and the dog's tail is moving back and forth, and back and forth, because the dog is happy or the dog wants to go for a walk, the dog's tail is wagging.
想一下,一只狗正在你面前来回摇尾巴,这是因为这只狗很高兴或者这只狗想要出去遛遛了,所以在摇尾巴。
You can also wag your finger at somebody, probably not, and hopefully not the middle one.
你也可以对别人摇动手指,但最好不要是中指。
If you're a parent and you want to tell your children not to do something, you can wag your finger.
如果你有孩子的话,你想告诉你的孩子不能做什么事情,就可以摇动手指。
"Beg"; this is a dog saying "Please, please, please, please, please feed me or take me for a walk, take me outside."
"Beg",这是一只小狗正在说:“拜托,拜托,拜托,喂我一下,或者带我出去玩。”
When the dog is "mm-mm" and jumping around and asking for you to do something, they are begging you to do something.
当一只狗在“嗯嗯”叫,而且还在你周围蹦来蹦去的时候,他们就是在求你做什么事情。
Or if they want food, maybe they're just hungry."Fetch"; this is a very common game that most dog-owners play.
当然也有可能是他们饿了,想吃东西。"Fetch",这是狗主人们很常玩儿的游戏。
My family has a dog, so sometimes, I take my dog out for a walk and I throw a stick or I throw a ball and I say "Fetch! Fetch the ball."
我家就有一只狗,有的时候我出门遛狗,我就会扔一根棍子或者一个球,然后说"Fetch! Fetch the ball."
"Fetch" means go get it and come back; go get it and come back.
"Fetch"的意思就是捡回来,去拿到然后回来。
This is not only for animals...it's not exactly super-polite, but you can say "Hey. When you're at the grocery store, can you go fetch me a bag of milk?", for example.
这个单词不仅可以说动物…可能不是那么礼貌,但是你也可以说,“嘿,你去杂货店的时候能不能帮我带一袋牛奶回来?”
Not really, really common, but you could say that."Roll over"; this is a command to a dog.
并不是很常见,但是你也可以这么说。"Roll over",这是对狗的命令。
If your dog is talented, if your dog can do tricks, obviously they can sit, they can also "roll over" -- go from one side to another side.It can be a command.
如果你的狗很聪明的话,或者喜欢玩儿,那他们就一定可以坐下,可以"roll over"——从一边翻滚到另一边。这个可以做一个指令。
"Lick"; some people find it gross, but animals do lick your face, they can lick your face.
"Lick",可能有些人觉得挺恶心,但是动物确实会舔你的脸。
So "lick" means using your tongue to "lick" someone, there's really no other way to put it.
所以说"lick"就是用你的舌头去舔别人,好像没有什么其他的方法可以表达了。
As you can see in this picture here, this person is really, really getting licked really badly.
正如你在这个图片里看到的,这个人正在被各种舔。
"Pet"; you're thinking a dog is a "pet", a cat is a "pet"."Pet" is also a verb.
"Pet",狗是一只"pet",猫也是一只"pet"。"Pet"也可以作为动词。
If you have a dog, if you have a cat, if you have any kind of "pet" where you can do this to them; you can stroke their fur, you can "pet" them.
如果你有狗或者猫的话,你可以捋顺他们的毛,你就是在爱抚他们。
You can "pet your dog"; you can "pet your cat"."Bark"; bark is the sound a dog makes.
你可以"pet your dog",也可以"pet your cat"。"Bark",这是狗发出的声音。
If your dog hears a stranger at the door and they "rah-rah-rah-rah-rah", the dog is barking.
如果你的狗听到门口有陌生人,他们会“汪汪”叫,这只狗就在barking。
Again, the verb is "bark".Now let's look at some cat verbs.A cat will "purr".
这个动词是"bark"。我们再来看看猫的动词。一只猫会"purr"。
When you hear this word, you can automatically imagine the word "purr", "purr"; the cat going "purrrrrrr", either because the cat is very happy, sleepy, or tired, this is purring.
你听到这个单词的时候,就会自动想到"purr",猫会"purrrrrrrr",无论是因为这只猫很高兴、困了或者很累,都会purring。
We have "meow"; obviously, you can hear the sound in your head; "Meow, meow, meow." "Meow", you can use it as a verb.
下一个,"meow",很明显,你会听到这个声音, "Meow, meow, meow." 也可以作为动词。
You can say, "Why is my cat meowing?" or "Why is your cat meowing?"
你可以说,"Why is my cat meowing?",或者"Why is your cat meowing?"
It would be weird for me to say "Why is my cat meowing?" "Why is your cat meowing? Is he hungry?"
可能我说"Why is my cat meowing?"会很奇怪,"Why is your cat meowing? Is he hungry?"
"Hiss"; if your cat does not like you or does not like strangers, or your friends, or someone that you introduce them to, or if they're scared, your cat might "hiss".
"Hiss",如果你家猫不喜欢你,或者不喜欢陌生人或是你朋友,抑或是害怕的时候,你家猫主子可能就会"hiss"。

If they go "hssss", that's hissing. That probably looked very ugly, I'm sorry.
如果他们发出了"hsssss"这样的声音,那就是hissing。可能刚才看起来挺丑的,抱歉。
Last of all, this is something that cats do a lot.Dogs can do it too, humans do it too.
最后一个,这是很多时候猫会做的。狗也会,人类其实也会。
"Barf", "throw up", or "puke".This is if you eat something and it comes back out of your mouth.
"Barf", "throw up", 或者 "puke"。就是说你吃了什么东西,又从你嘴里出来了。
Cats often cough up or barf up, "throw up" hairballs, for example, or just a lot of really, really gross, disgusting, not-nice things.
猫经常会咳嗽一下,或者吐出来什么很恶心的东西,比如毛团。
This means to...the correct verb is regurgitate. You can look up regurgitate, but informally, we say "throw up", "puke", or "barf".
准确的动词应该是regurgitate。你可以查一下这个单词,但是非正式情况下,我们可以说"throw up","puke",或者 "barf"。
If you say "Oh no! My cat barfed on the sofa!"...not a good thing.
如果你说"Oh no! My cat barfed on the sofa!"……这可不是什么好事情。
