1.mournful adj.悲哀的，令人伤心的

2.ratio n．比率，比例

【例】Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.π
是圆周与直径的比率。
【派】ration[n．定量，配给限额；[pl.]（军队等每日的）口粮vt．限定，配给；定量配给（供应物）]
【辨】ratio, percentage, proportion三个词都有“比例”的意思。ratio侧重两者间的对比；percentage主要是整体中的一部分所占的比例；proportion既可指整体中的一小部分，也可指一个整体中各部分之间的关系，如：proportion between oil and vinegar.

3.episode n．插曲；（文艺作品中）一段情节；（一系列事件中的）一个事件

8.justify v．证明…为正当；成为…的理由，为…辩护

【例】The arguer provides a lot of evidence to justify the claim.
为了证明这个要求是正当的，辩论者提供了许多证据。
【辨】justify，testify二者都与“证明”有关，但侧重点不同。justify指“为…提供正当理由”；testify强调作证、提供证据，通常指在法庭上，但不一定是证明某人清白或某事正当，如：He testified in court that he saw the criminal．
