A plane in a Russian airline's fleet was forced to turn back to its departure airport after one of its wheels fell off after it had taken to the air.

Yamal Airlines flight B734 had already flown 115 miles from Tyumen, central Russia, when the crew were informed of the missing part. The plane was able to safely land in Tyumen again 50 minutes after departure but the incident caused five and half hours' of delay.

According to The Aviation Herald, 148 passengers and seven members of crew were on board the flight to Novy Urengoy on Wednesday. A wheel from the outboard right side had fallen off some time during or shortly after take off and was discovered at Tyumen Airport after the Boeing 737-400 was already in the air.

The loss of the part has been attributed to a bearing failure and Ural's Transport Investigation Committee is now investigating the incident. After the delay the passengers were finally able to reach their destination on a replacement Airbus A320-200.
