由于中国的高考独木桥使得无数优秀学子在被大学录取时,无法进入最心仪的专业就读,而不少大学应届毕业生在参加工作时,也没有选择自己就读的专业领域,因此长久以来,中国学生和家长对申请大学的专业并不在意。甚至有些家长存在这样的观念:“不管读什么专业,只要孩子能上就好!”其实带着这种观念在进入美国大学学习,恰恰会让孩子学得事倍功半。
启德教育美国项目总监、资深教育顾问张索娃分析说:“在美国大众的普遍观念里,大学教育只是实现未来职业规划的一个途径,拿本科文凭并非最终目的。虽然美国大学实施通才教育,在大学前两年只学习基础课程,并不要求马上确定专业,但如果要求转系,如从文科转理科或从工科转商科,肯定会造成一定学分的浪费,也就是孩子学费和时间的浪费。”因此她建议说,一旦中国学生确定去美国读大学,专业宜早确定,而且最好根据学生的兴趣爱好和未来职业发展计划来选择。
同时,选专业要注重技巧。从前文中可以看出,金融专业毕业生的就业“钱”景颇佳,但正因如此,选择该专业的优秀学生也非常多。每年美国大学金融专业的录取竞争都异常激烈。而中国学生比起其他金融体系发达国家的学生来说,对于金融服务领域的了解并不多,真正有丰富工作经验和专业知识的更少之又少,因此申请难度比较大。但如果选择申请数学专业,同样可以进入金融行业就职,中国学生在这方面的优势就大多了。
