Aka, short people have a slightly harder life than tall folks. A recent study on military men at Camp Pendleton confirmed an increased risk of depression for men who are 5’8” or shorter.

Valery Krupnik, the lead clinician for the study,told LiveScience that, “When people find themselves outliers for reasons beyond their control, like physical attributes, they face a challenge in addition to all of the challenges average people face.”

For men in the military, being shorter doesn’t help with the physical demands of being in the armed forces. However, vertically challenged civilians have issues, too. The CDC reports that the average height of an American male is 5’9” and guys who fall under that number are more likely to face setbacks in career prospects and dating partners. Shorter men get teased more often and are more likely to struggle with self-esteem issues. Clinical psychologist Daniel Freeman of Oxford University even notes that greater height is associated with a slightly lower risk of suicide. A Swedish study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry reports that suicide risk drops 9% for every two-inch increase in height.

Professionals across the board in scientific study agree that height is associated with various aspects of happiness and success due to microaggressions that shorter people deal with in everyday life. Freeman also notes that a person who is 6’0” tall is likely to earn $150,000 more over the course of a 30-year career than someone who is 5’4” because the taller you are, the more likely you’ll do better at school and then have career success.

Nepal has its first ever female President, after the country's parliament elected Bidhya Bhandari to the position. She was previously the Vice Chairperson of the Unified Marxist–Leninist Communist Party of Nepal. The election came after the Himalayan nation issued a new constitution on September the 20th.
Bhandari, now 54, replaces Ram Baran Yadav, who was appointed as the Nepal's first head of state, after the country became a federal democratic republic in 2008, ending a 240-year Monarchy. Bhandari has previously served as the country's defense minister. She defeated her opponent Kul Bahadur Gurung by 327 to 214 votes.

China's urban unemployment for the third quarter went up slightly from the previous quarter. That's according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. Urban unemployment rate was 4.05 percent at the end of the third quarter, slightly higher than 4.04 percent at the end of the previous quarter. That's still well below the annual target of less than 4.5 percent. The ministry says China's job market maintains relatively stable.
In the first nine months of this year, some 10.6 million jobs were created in Chinese cities, finishing the government's urban job creation target of 10 million ahead of time.
As the Chinese economy showed signs of a slowdown this year, rumours of massive lay-offs across companies have been circulating. The ministry said job cuts have indeed risen among certain enterprises, but in general the labor flow has been stable and there have been no signs of big lay-offs.
The official also briefed the public on progress made in China's health insurance system. The government's handling and coordination of healthcare has now basically moved from the local county level to city level. That means it would be easier for citizens to use their health insurance accounts across different city districts.
Officials also said China's pension funds will be ready for investments in stocks and equities in 2016. Around 2 trillion yuan of the fund's total assets can be invested in various products. China's pension funds, which account for 90 percent of the country's total social security fund pool, had net assets of 3.5 trillion yuan at the end of 2014.
